It was Jessie’s birthday, and she was feeling a little low. She hadn’t seen her boyfriend Ray all week, and it seemed as if he had forgotten her birthday. She was a big girl, she didn’t really care about birthdays; still, it would have been nice if he had remembered. So she called her friends Sanda and Melinda, who each said that they were busy. Not even her best friends remembered or cared, so Jessie put on a track suit and helped herself to some Haagen-Daas.
It was eight o clock at night when the doorbell rang. Sitting her rocky road down, she got up and was surprised to see that it was Sanda and Melinda.
“Where have you been all day? I’ve been calling you since noon!” Jessie smiled as she greeted her friends.
“We’ve been out shopping.”
Jessie was hurt but she didn’t want to show it.
“Don’t you know what we were shopping for?”
“I don’t know, Melinda, that outfit looks new.”
She laughed. “Silly Jessie. We were shopping for you! We brought you some birthday presents. You didn’t think we forgot did you?”
“Well…maybe a little,” Jessie admitted.
“Come on now, look in the bag. There’s Nights in Rodenthe with Richard Gere who gets better the older he gets,” Melinda started.
“Don’t mention older please,” Jessie laughed.
Sanda grabbed her arm. “Oh and then there is Sleepless in Seattle. I think Tom Hanks can cheer anyone up.”
“Oh you guys,”
“And here is Dirty Dancing. I just love Patrick Swayze,” Melinda jumped in.
“Oh, Melinda, don’t forget about Grease! You know Jessie loves her John Travolta,” Sanda smiled.
“Oh that’s great you two. I’m glad you two didn’t forget. There is one problem though,” Jessie sighed.
“I knew you would say that. Go open the door,” Sanda grabbed her arm and led her to the doorway.
On the other side of the door was Ray, wearing a tuxedo and holding a huge bouquet of roses, Jessie’s favorites.
“Oh my!” Jessie exclaimed. “Are you taking me some where?”
“Nope. I’m here to crash girls’ night, if that is okay with you,” Ray smiled before kissing her.
“That is okay, won’t you get bored?”
“nope, I brought along a six pack. I’m good for the night!”
Everyone laughed while Melinda put Grease in. This was sure to be a night Jessie always would remember.
