A Shield one shot, I am going to try one for you Melinda.
No going back now
Shane left the store with the flowers, truck, and juice, and got in his car, and sat there for a few moments. He just wanted to go back to the day before getting the job at the Barn. He had two choices he could work but the thought of working with Vic Mackey was to hard to pass up. He has heard about Vic, and the thought of working along side him was scary because he didn't know if he could live up to it.
Shane slammed his hands on the steering wheel wishing he took the other job, and never started his life of Hell with Vic, and the Strike team. Shane started the car up but all the way back to his place he was replaying every thing he has ever done along with Vic, Lem, and Ronnie in his head. Shane went through a red light but he almost got hit but he continued on home wiping tears from his cheek. He finally got up to the house he parked, and he didn't care anymore who saw him. He was tired of running, but he was not going to give Vic Mackey the satisfaction of thinking he won. He grabbed the things out of the car, and walked up the stairs, and he turned seeing his neighbour getting in her car, and he knew she was going to call the Police, and he knew he didn't have much time so he had to focus, and do what was needed to be done to protect his family. He went inside, and he heard Mara, and Jackson laughing, and for a moment he smiled he just wanted to forget about all the bad stuff, but he knew the Police would be arriving any moment. He walked to the kitchen, and grabbed a tray, and put two glasses of juice on the tray, and he took the medicine from his jacket pocket, and poured it in the glasses. He felt sick knowing he was about to end his own families life, but he had to because he couldn't let Mara go to jail. He couldn't let them rip their baby girl from her, and put her, and Jackson in some Foster home where his children could be abused, and he would not be there to protect them. All his life he dreamed of being a Father, and a Husband, and he had the chance, and he blew it. Mara deserved so much better than him, but she stayed, and look what she got for it. Shane felt like a complete failure, but knowing Vic was going to walk, and his family would suffer made him crazy. Shane knew he deserved to rot in prison or worse but Mara only killed someone to protect him. She would have never been in that situation if they were not on the run. Shane grabbed the tray, and walked into the bedroom, and Jackson smiled seeing his Daddy.
"Daddy we missed you"
Shane put the tray down, and lifted up his boy, and hugged him so tight. Mara could see Shane was emotional, and she tried to get up but the pain was to much for her. Shane put Jackson down, and told them to wait a minute. He ran to the living room, and brought Mara the flowers, and Jackson a truck. They both were surprised, Jackson hugged his car, and said.
"You are the best Daddy, I love this" Shane touched his cheek, and whispered, "You know how much Daddy loves you don't you"?
"Yup" Jackson started to play with his truck as Shane handed Mara the flowers, and gave her a kiss.
'Shane I know you are scared but when I am better maybe we can run again"
"Don't you worry about it just relax, and I bought you some flowers"
Mara smiled, "Wow flowers Shane they are beautiful"
Shane had tears in his eyes as he reached his hand up to Mara's cheek, and said.
"I owe you so much Mara, I love you more than you will ever know. I am so sorry I have hurt you over, and over again. I know I don't deserve you but thank you for always having my back, but please know I have never loved anyone more than I have loved you"
Mara smiled, "Even more than Vic"
Shane was taken back, but he whispered, "Don't ruin this moment by mentioning his name"
"I am sorry"
Shane was losing his mind , and if he didn't do what he planned now it would be to late. He got up grabbing the juice, and handed one to Mara, and one to Jackson, and told them to drink up. Mara never suspected anything as Jackson was drinking the juice, and he giggled as Shane felt like he was going to stop breathing. He watched as they continued to drink but Jackson leaned on his Mom, and Shane took the glass from him, and Mara looked into Shane's eyes as she whispered.
"Shane" It was the last thing she said as she shut her eyes. Shane started to cry as he watched them take their last breaths. He put the truck in Jackson's arm, and the flowers in Mara's arms. He walked to the bathroom really slowly as he looked into the mirror. He hated what was looking back at him. He picked up the pad of paper, and he started to write but his eyes were filling up with tears. What has he done, he thought it was the right thing to do but he killed his beautiful family. He started to write his confession, and he barely got through with it when he heard the door being kicked in. He put the gun to his head, and the easiest thing he ever had to do was to pull the trigger. He was to blame for everything that happened to him, but he knew no matter what his beautiful wife, and kids didn't deserve what they got, and he hoped wherever they are now they will forgive him because he was sure he was not going to the same place.
