Another Daryl, and Carol one shot.
A Cry in the night
Daryl was making his rounds of the camp, and he walked past Carol's tent when he heard her crying. He froze staring at the tent he knew she was crying for her Daughter he couldn't imagine how she felt knowing her little girl was killed, and came back as a walker only to be shot in the head by someone in the group must be tearing Carol up inside. Daryl has on many occasions wanted to tell her if she needs someone to talk to he was there for her. Carol has withdrawn from the group she still does chores, and eats with them but she has lost all will to live, and it was making Daryl crazy. He couldn't stand seeing her hurting so bad, and there was nothing he could do about it. He was not going to allow her to be wreck less, and get herself killed not on his watch. Everyone has sat back none of them really wanted to say anything to her to upset her, but Daryl decided tonight he would tell her how he feels, and hopefully she would listen, and not hate him more than he felt she hated him already. He promised to bring Sophia home, and he didn't keep his word, and he let her down, and he was so sorry for that.
Daryl looked over a few of the Group were up talking. He walked over to Carol's tent, and called out her name. She stopped crying, and didn't answer him but he asked her if he could come in?
"Daryl if you heard me crying I'm fine go away"
"I asked you if I could come in we need to talk"
Carol finally got up, and opened her tent, and she let him in.
Daryl zipped the tent up, Carol walked over sitting on her sleeping bag, and held a pink blanket close to her as she stared at him.
"Carol I know your hurting, and I feel horrible about that, but you have to let us help you"
"Help me how can you help me can you bring Sophia back to me"?
"You know I can't , I tried"
"I know you did this isn't your fault it is mine I was her Mother , and I let her down. I stayed in a marriage of a abuse because I was a coward, and couldn't walk away because I was so afraid of being alone. I would have done anything to protect my little girl she was all I had left, and I let her down. Do you know I have not had one dream of her not once since her death. How can a Mother not dream of her baby girl Daryl?"
"Carol I don't think you slept much since it happened you have major dark circles around your eyes. You look pale, and I'm so afraid you will let your guard down, and I will lose you too"
"What"?
"Carol I'm not a man that expresses his feelings well, and I'm not about to change now. I care for you more than anyone else in this group of people we are with. I want to keep them safe, I wish I could bring your baby girl home to you but I can't. I want to help you, I want you to know I'm here for you whenever you need someone to talk to"
"Daryl how am I suppose to go on without her"
"You will I will help you"
Carol smiled as Daryl whispered.
"I have to go back out there I have another hour shift to watch the camp but if you would like I could come back in a hour, and we can talk more"
"I would like that"
Daryl got up, and walked to the opening of the tent, and opened it. He turned back, and for the first time in weeks he saw life come back into Carol eyes, and he had to admit he was rather proud he put that life back in them. He always felt he wasn't capable of love, and being in a relationship, he has had flings in the past but they never amounted to anything. This time he looked at Carol, and wondered if despite all the death, and uncertainty of this world could he have a chance at love. He wasn't sure but if anyone could make that happen for him he knew it was the lady he was looking at. He never felt this way before but it felt good, he loved knowing tonight he just may have someone to hold, and comfort, he left her tent, and for the first time in a long time he couldn't wait for his shift to be over so he could get back to Carol.
The End.
