JR woke up feei.g rather sstrangely. He felt a peace and a calmness that he'd never felt before. Oh he was home at Southfork finally after all those years, all those wasted years. He felt a little dehydrated so he thought that he'd get the help to make him some coffee. After looking around the house he realized that no one was there, not even Bobby. So he decided to go for a stroll around the ranch instead.
Oh yes. Southfork. The place he'd called home for most of his life. His mama would be proud of how well. Bobby had kept it up. .not a bad place to call home if he thought so himself. Oh how he missed his mama.
But she was in a far better place than even Southfork. There was most certainly a place reserved for her in heaven. His daddy he wasn't too sure about but JR's mama was most certainly amongst the angels right now.
For some reason he had a feeling he should head south so he followed his instincts. Soon he saw someone standing beside Bobby's old treehouse. Curiosity got the better of JR so he followed the path that led him straight to the invader.
"Who are you? "
The stranger turned around slowly
JR gasped. He knew that he was an old man and that his eyes were beginning to fail him, but there was no mistaking who was standing right before him.
"Welcome home, son, " the old man smiled _broadly.
"Daddy? Is that you? Is that really you? "
"Yes, my boy. It is me, Jock Ewing, your daddy."
"But how could this be? You're ...you're dead."
Jock looked at his oldest boy sadly. The look on his face told JR everything he needed to know but had been dreading for years.
"Am I? ..."
"Yes, son. You're home now. I've been waiting a long time for this day."
"And Mama? "
"She's a little heartbroken at the moment. Give her a little time."
'Whys she so upset? "
"Boy don't you know how much that woman loves you? "
"I know. I guess I've always known that. But you, daddy, well, I wasn't always so sure."
"You didn't give me much to be proud of, now did you boy? "
JR nodded in shame. "I only wanted you to be proud of me, Daddy. Didn't you know that? "
"Yes, JR, I always knew that. I didn't always agree with you but I always loved you. Always. "
"You.. you loved me? "
Jock smiled. "Always."
"Daddy ...I...I...I.."
"You don't have to say it. I knew."
"And Sue Ellen? "
'She loves you as well. She will never find someone like you for as long as she lives. "
"Daddy you wouldn't be so proud of me if you knew ...if you only knew how I treated her."
"I knew. I just didn't think it was my place to say anything. Maybe if I had..."
"No, Daddy. You know and I know I wouldn't have done anything differently even if u had the power to."
"I knoe that. But it's okay now. You're with me and your mama and we won't let anything happen to you anymore. Its all my fault. If I'd been just a little better ..."
"Daddy you were perfect. I couldn't have asked for a better life then what you gave me."
"I can't take any of the credit. It was always your mama. She's a hell of a woman."
JR nodded."she sure was."
"Is. I think its time, dont you? "Jock asked.
JR started to follow his daddy, wondering what he would find. As he took one last look back at the ranch he felt a new feeling, one he'd never felt before. It was hope. JR smiled, knowing that he was in a safe place and that one day he'd see Sue Ellen again. He hoped that it wouldn't be for a long, long time. But for now he had his daddy and his mama again, and for that he was thankful. He'd have his day with Sue Ellen again, but for now, he was home, and he was finally free.
The end
This is one of the hardest stories that I've had to write
My words aren't enough to express my gratitude for all the joy that Larry Hagman has brought into mine and my family's lives. Thank you, old friend. You will never be forgotten.
