Memories
By Melinda
JR sat alone in his room, with nothing left to comfort him but his thoughts. Everyone presumed him a broken man, but that wasn’t the truth, not exactly. He’d fallen, oh how the mighty have fallen they proclaimed, but he still had one thing that kept him going. He had his memories. True, some of them had faded to shades of gray, but for the most part he could remember everything about her. Her. There was no need to speak her name, for she was always at the front of his mind. He could still taste her kisses; if he closed his eyes and took a deep breath he could still smell the intoxicating fragrance that was Sue Ellen. Everything she did was remarkable and deliberate. There were no accidents with her , not when it came to their relationship. He wrote the book but she played his game, refusing to dance to his tune. That was one reason he knew that as long as he lived he’d never forget his wife.
His wife. They’d been divorced some twenty odd years, but she would always belong to him. Yes, she’d been with other men, and the thought made him sick, but he could get past that. After all, it wasn’t exactly as if he’d been celibate during that time, save for lately. Whenever the thought crossed his mind of another man laying his hands on his wife, he’d get angry at first, then he’d be amused. She never was the most patient of women. And what a woman she was.
Sue Ellen. Just the thought of her name drove him to distraction. Just when he thought that he’d gotten her out of his mind, a random memory or a dream would hit him, bringing him nearly to tears. Nearly. JR Ewing was never one to wear his heart on his sleeve, but even he had a soft spot, and that was Sue Ellen.
He’s tried to forget her, telling himself that it didn’t matter that things didn’t work out. It was for the best, that was his mantra. Women were a dime a dozen, but when it came down to it, his ex-wife was one in a million. Never in his life had he met a woman that could match him wit for wit, word for word, spite for spite. Sue Ellen was more than just an independent woman; he knew she became that way because of him, and he would chuckle to himself thinking of all their arguments. How many times did one of their fights turn physical and then sexual? Too many to count, but none that he could forget.
Boy did he miss those days. Back in his prime he knew that he could always have her whenever he wanted, or so he’d told himself time and time again. But alas, the day came that he could never happen again, and it drove him crazy. Perhaps, literally. JR knew what people said about him, he heard their whispers, but he didn’t care. Not really. What he wouldn’t give just to hold his Sugar in his arms, to feel her warm body beside his, to show her what she had ever meant to him. But that was impossible. They’d both drew their lines, with neither of them willing to budge. In the back of his mind she would return. He didn’t know when or where or how, but she would be his again. Until then, he would bide his time in this hellhole that he’d been living in for some time. He had his memories, no one could take them away from him, and for now, that would have to do.
The end
