Another Brokeback Mountain story, this is how I would have loved to see it end.
Knock at the door
Chapter 1
It has been 3 months since Ennis found out Jack was dead, and he had awful thoughts of how it really happened. Thinking of Jack dying all alone made him ill but he had to move on for his girls sake. He knew he would never find a love like Jack, and in a way he blamed himself because he knew he wasted so much time. He basically ruined Alma's life but he had 2 beautiful girls, and for that he was grateful. He basically lost everything he was living in a trailer all alone, and it was starting to really get to him. He would go to town, but he didn't go into the bars, because he really didn't want to talk, and have one night stands with some of the local ladies in town. He would rather be at home, and pine away all alone with his memories. He missed his girls one was married, and the other was away at school so he basically had no one to talk to. He worked hard, and came home most night so exhausted he went right to sleep. He stopped looking in the mirror he was looking old, and it really made him ill.
It was a Sunday night, and he was home, and went for a long walk after dinner, and was about to turn in. He heard a car drive up, and he knew it was not the girls so he locked the trailer hoping whoever it was would just drive on by. He was not in the mood to talk to anyone, and he was not going to listen to anyone recite the bible, but maybe he should at least he would have someone to talk to. He was a Church man, but recently he stopped going because he felt if God could take someone like Jack away so easily, he really didn't want to go to Church no more. Alma was angry about that because the girls were raised to go to Church, and that was the one thing she demanded of him while they were married. They were not married anymore so she could get her new husband to go, beside the kids are not at Church anymore.
Ennis heard a knock at his door, and he sat on the bed quiet thinking whoever it was would go away. He heard another knock, and this time the person was louder. Ennis was a little angry it was 8pm on a Sunday night who would just drop by this late. He finally got up, and walked over to the door a little angry, but he pulled it open, and what he saw took his breath away , he actually moved back two steps, and thought he was dreaming this can not be happening.
"Ennis"
"This is a dream you are dead"
"No I'm here Ennis you are not dreaming"
"You are dead Ennis your parents buried you, I saw them , they said you were gone"
"They think I am, because I had to hide, I killed someone"
"Oh God Jack this is to much I don't understand"
"I was so angry with you, I met someone he was the total opposite of you. He would do anything for me, and I was a fool, I enjoyed being around him, but I didn't want him, like I wanted you. We had this fight, and he said he was leaving to go to New York, and he wanted me to come. I knew if I went to New York, I would never see you, or my son again. I couldn't stand that, so I said no. He was so angry, he said I wasted months of his life, and he left , and I was so alone. I knew I couldn't come to you, but I went to a bar, and got drunk. This guy was talking to me, he said he was not from my town, he was a salesman, and he had no family. Than, one thing lead to another, I talked about you, and my problems. He was horrible the things he said was disgusting, I left the bar, I didn't want any problems, but he followed me. He was crazy he ran me off the road, I knew he was going to kill me, and I had to protect myself. I had this bat in the car, and he came at me, and I told him to leave, and we could forget about everything. He said I was evil, and sick, and I deserved to die alone, because of what I have done. I was so scared, but he pulled out a knife, and I freaked out, and I protected myself. I hit him but he came at me again, and I hit him again, and again. I don't remember how many times, but what he was saying made me ill, I was fed up with people looking down on me, and calling me names for who I was. I should be able to love whoever I want, and not have to hide from pigs like him. I knew he was dead, but I felt for a pulse, I panicked, I knew they would say I was a murderer, and I killed him, but he came at me. I had to run, so I put my ID in his pocket, and put my watch on his wrist, and left my car their with all my belongings. I took his car, and thought no one would miss him , he said he had no family. They identified me by my watch, and wallet, and said I died on the side of a road. They said I probably was hit by a car, but he wanted to kill me, and I defended myself"
Ennis walked over hugging him, as Jack went into his arms.
