I usually don't write for myself but tonight I wanted a quick pick me up, hope you don't mind lol
Surprise twist of fate
Melinda had never met a man so mysterious. She had heard all the rumors, had heard all about his past, and knew that she should have been scared. Part of her was, the fact was, Todd Manning had just saved her child’s life by keeping him from being hit by a car, and she owed him so much. Her son was being evaluated by the doctors, and they told her to wait out in the hallway, and Todd had just brought her some coffee.
“Thanks,” she smiled. She had been crying, and didn’t even remember if she told him thank you. “Thank you,” she repeated.
“You don’t have to thank me. It’s just coffee. Not very good coffee at that,” he commented.
“No,” she smiled. “I meant I have to thank you for what you did…for my son. I don’t know what I would have done if you hadn’t been there. My son is everything…”
Todd put his hand in the air. “I’m a parent too. You don’t have to tell me. I have kids too. Actually I’m a grandparent.”
Melinda couldn’t help it. She started to laugh. Todd started to walk away.
She placed her hand on his shoulder. “Are you serious? You’re so young.”
“Yeah. Don’t remind me. My daughter started young. What can I say. I wasn’t too happy when I found out. But there wasn’t anything I could do about it. I kind of missed out on those years.”
“I’m sorry. That must have been difficult.”
He winced. “You have no idea.”
“Look, I know you don’t know me. I don’ t know you. I usually don’t do this sort of thing, but would you like my number? We could talk some more about this after my son comes home. Right now he’s my top priority but the doctor says he’ll come home tomorrow, they are just being extra cautious. Maybe we can get together for some real coffee.”
Todd studied her. “Do you have any idea who you’re talking to?”
Melinda paused. “I do.”
“And you’re okay with that? I mean you would want me around your kid?”
She smiled. “Well maybe not at first. But that’s my policy with any man. But I would like you to go into his room so he can meet the man who saved his life, that is if you’re okay with that.”
He kind of smiled, and she took his hand and led him into her son’s room.
Her son was asleep, so they didn’t stay long, but Todd could see what kind of mother she was. This was going to be an interesting relationship.

Melinda and Todd met for a coffee, and that led to a dinner, and led to more dinners. Pretty soon it was time to meet Max, and to her surprise her kid took to Todd pretty easily. For some reason kids loved Todd, they weren’t afraid of him the way adults were. After that they introduced him to Todd’s kids and Hope, and that went well, even though Max was shy. Things between Todd and Melinda were getting serious, and even though Blair was a little jealous she didn’t interfere like she usually did because she saw that Todd was happy.
It wasn’t the way Melinda wanted to meet a man, but fate definitely had a hand, and finally she was happy after all.
