It was the five year anniversary since Pam disappeared, and Bobby couldn’t help but remember. All he could do that day was open up the curtains to their bedroom, light a candle, and sit by the window. He didn’t ask for much in life. Pray that his son had turned out happy and healthy; that he had the presence of mind to keep JR in check; that he could look after Southfork the way his daddy would have wanted him to. And most of all, he wanted Pam to come home. There wasn’t a day that went by that he didn’t think of her.
He remembered her the way she was. He thought of her beauty, her grace, her elegance. Bobby swore, on windy days, that he could hear her laugh when the wind blew a certain way. Or on sunny days he could see her smile. And when the rain came down he could sense her tears were falling down her face. For every season of the year there was a season to her heart, and he liked to think that he had captured it for all eternity. But the worst part was that he just didn’t know. There was no way of knowing, Pam had made sure of that when she left him and Christopher all alone. But today he sat all alone, praying that today would be the day that his beloved wife would come home.
Bobby had never remarried, although all of his friends had urged him to. JR had tried unsuccessfully to set him up on many blind dates, but all he could see was Pam’s replacements, and they could never hold a candle to her. No one could. As hard as he tried, he could not imagine giving his heart to another the way he did her. He knew it was too late to turn back to clock and save her from that awful day, but he could save himself for the day Pam would walk back in the doors of Southfork and into his and Christopher’s lives forever. He knew it would be soon. He could feel it in his heart.
Pam would never give up on their love, and neither would he. He owed her that much. They were destined for each other, and so as long as there was breath in him, Bobby would wait. He might live to be 90, but his doors would always be open for Pam. There would be a way. It might take some time and hard work, and patience most of all, but in his heart he would never stop believing. One day, and one day soon, Pam would come home. Until then, he would light a candle for her, and do everything he could to keep the dream alive. It wouldn’t be long now, he could feel it. The phone rang, and as he picked it up, his heart stopped.
Bobby smiled. His beautiful wife was finally coming home.
