Sue Ellen touched up her blush, wanting to disguise herself as much as possible. She looked the same; she was the same woman she had been over the past ten years physically. True, she had matured some; she now had womanly breasts and the hips that had borne a child. But she had maintained the physical features that became a Ewing woman and that had once belonged to a Miss Texas, the woman that he had fallen in love with. A decade ago seemed like an eternity now. It was hard to believe that tonight was the night they were laying it all to rest. Tonight was the night she was saying goodbye to JR Ewing for once and for all.
Tomorrow she was marrying Dusty Farlow, a good and decent man. He truly had her heart. She knew from the moment she met him that she was going to marry him. Dusty made her laugh, he made her love again, and he made her forget about all of the pain that she had been through. There was only one catch- he was impotent. That she didn’t care about. She’d had all of the sex she needed in a lifetime with JR. He had been the most passionate lover in the world and look how her life had turned out. No, sex was not the be all and end all in a marriage. She knew that better than anyone.
But tonight she had a secret. She and JR would share just one last night, one secret night that no one would ever know about. It would kill Dusty if he were to ever find out. But this was not about sex, and Dusty would probably understand if it were. It was about laying to rest the legend that was JR and Sue Ellen. The magic that once was. All that was beautiful and good and miraculous… was it all in her mind? She just had to know and tonight she would find out.
JR had played games with her mind and sanity for years. But tonight was on her terms. She was the one who had suggested this. He was all too eager to go along with it, but he was curious. He didn’t know why she wanted this at first, but after thinking about it he understood. JR understood Sue Ellen as well as he knew himself. That was what had once made them one of the most powerful couples of Dallas. But unfortunately, as Sue Ellen found out , power corrupts, and it destroys. She had witnessed that better than anyone else she had known.
Why did she need to say goodbye to JR? After all that he had put her through, why not walk away on top, letting him see that she had moved on, happier without him than with him? Sue Ellen knew that part of her would always be with him, even though she had given her heart to someone else. Lord knew she tried to pretend and tried to deny but finally she had accept it. Just as she was tied to him through John Ross, there was a bond between her and JR that time could not erase. Dusty saw it; he had to. But Sue Ellen made her choice. Dusty was number one. JR was the past. But just for tonight, he was her present, and she lived for the moment, and that was all she had. Just one more memory, and she would carry it with her until the day she died.
The end
