Carla's Birthday Gift for Sam

I'm going to try a Cheers short story, I'm not sure how good it will be? Melinda is the storyteller for the characters of M.A.S.H, Frasier , Cheers, The Nanny, and I dream of Jeannie. I'm going to try, mine are normally more serious, but here goes. lol ;D
Chapter 1

Carla has seen Sam moping around for weeks, it was driving her crazy. He was always the life of the party, but nowadays, he barely speaks to anyone, except the occasional customer, but they even have noticed he has been really down. Carla couldn't understand why he missed the two people that drove her insane. He missed Diane, and Rebbecca, and for the life of her she couldn't understand why? It was Sam's birthday, and she wanted to cheer him up big time. She came up with a idea, that she ran across Woody. He thought it was a great idea, but Norm thought it might come back to bite her in the butt. Carla went with her gut, and she made a decision she just might regret, but it was worth it. She grabbed the phone calling Rebbecca first.

'Hello"

"Rebbecca it is Carla, remember me"?

"Oh Carla what on earth possessed you to call me"?

"Well for Sam it is his Birthday Friday"?

"I know but I'm the last person he wants to see. We didn't leave on the best of terms Carla"

"I know but for Sam can you come"?

"Well I don't know it has been 6 months , he hasn't called me once".

"He is stubborn but did you call him"?

"No Carla he told me to leave, and not let the door slam me in my butt as I go"

"That was me fool, not Sam"

'Oh God it was you, Carla you are nasty girl"

'Well you got my guy mad, so I was protecting him"

"Your guy Carla, that is news to me"

"Oh Sam, Woody, and Couch, were my guys, I would protect them like a pit bull, and you know it"

"Yeah I know it Carla, but I don't know about Friday"

"Why are you that selfish, you can't let this stupid grudge go"?

"No, there is things you wouldn't understand, I'm scared to come back Carla"

"Well I thought I would hear that from Diane but never you Rebbecca. I had my fights with you, but I admired you in a way, but not now, I will let you go"

"Carla wait please"

"No go back to your busy boring life, and forget about Sam. I will give him a wonderful Birthday, and maybe I will set him up with a real girl, not the fake ones he had in the past. Sam is amazing, and you are a fool Rebbecca Howe, you will regret this one day, I promise you that".

Carla hung up, she sat down, she was drained, she hated trying to beg her to come to town. She was scared to phone Diane, she knew it would be worse, than speaking with Rebbecca. She sat back, and wondered should she even bother?

Oh Jessie this was a wonderful surprise! You write Carla better than I can this is going to be a really good story, poor Sam losing rebecca and diane, I cant wait to see Carla swallow her pride and ask Diane back. You really had me surprised here, very good start to your new story

Thank you Melinda and Sanda, I was nervous to write this story. Your comments were very sweet, it really means a lot to me, that you love my stories.. This is out of my comfort zone, but your comments, actually made me do chapter 2, right away. ;D

Chapter 2

Carly went to make a coffee, she was going to forget about calling Diane, but she sat down, and dialed her number.

"Hello"

"Diane it is Carla, don't hang up on me"

'Carla who"?

"Diane you are a jerk sometimes, I'm calling to ask you a favor"

'Oh man you want something from me Carla"?

"No I'm doing this for Sam, you remember it is his birthday this Friday"?

"Yes Carla I know, why are you calling"?

"I would like you to come, we are going to have a big party for him at the bar. We are closing down , and everything"

"Sam is willing to close down for the night, that is strange"

"No, I'm closing for him, some of the customers are welcome. They can pay for their own drinks, but I will let you off if you come"

"Carla I can't believe you, I don't know Sam wouldn't want to see me"

"Are you kidding he would love to see you"

"Really Carla, what are you up too? You want me to show up so Sam hurts me again. Is he dating, and you want me to get a flight there, and see his new plaything"?

"Diane shut up, and listen Sam is alone, please come"

"Oh are you begging me"?

"No I won't beg, will you do it or not"?

"No I'm sorry, but I will send a card"

"Forget it, if you can't show up, keep your card "

"Carla you are angry, I can't believe you want me there"

"I don't but for Sam, I would do anything, I love that man"

"You love Sam"?

"Yes, and I hated how you treated him Diane"

"Me he treated me bad, why do you think I left"

"You left because you are selfish, and wanted your own way"

"You have no idea what your talking about Carla"

"So you won't attend his party"?

"No sorry".

Carla hung up, shocking Diane.

Diane sat down on the couch, she felt horrible, why was she so rude to Carla? Diane laughed, "She is always rude she deserved it, and Sam wouldn't want me there anyway." Diane got up, grabbing her purse, she was going to go shopping, it always made her feel better.

Carla was so angry with herself for calling those two Dingbats. Sam was better off without them, he just had to realize it. She was going to invite every pretty customer, to the party. Sam would be surrounded by blonde, brunette, and Red heads, he won't know what to do? She grabbed her bag, and left to go to work. She got to the Bar, she walked in, she took one look at Sam, and her heart broke. She wished she could have got at least one of them to show up, for him. She walked over, "Sam I'm late sorry"

"Ok Carla"

"Sam I'm late "

"Yeah you just said that".

"Sam snap out of this, God there is 100's of ladies in this town, get over those two selfish girls"

"Carla mind your own business"

"Sam I care, stop feeling sorry for yourself"

Sam glared at Carla, he walked out from behind the bar, and into his office. He slammed the door, everyone looked at Carla, and for the first time ever, they saw her cry, and it shocked them.

wow I actually felt sorry for Carla, she's trying so hard to make things better for Sam and is getting shut down at every side. You have Diane perfectly IC, she is so stubborn and blames Sam for everything. I love this story, thanks for updating already

Chapter 3

Norm tried to cheer up Carla, well like anyone could cheer her up.

"Carla Sam is having a rough time recently"

"Really Norm, you are smart, I didn't realize that all on my own"

"Ok don't be rude, I'm sorry you are upset, I have never seen tears in your eyes"

"Tears are you crazy, I cried once in my life, and that was at Couch's funeral, I don't cry"

"Whatever Carla we all know you love Sam. You are organizing, a big Birthday Bash for him, admit it you care"

"I care of course I care Norm, he is my boss"

"And your friend, did you call Diane and Rebbecca"?

"Don't mention there names to me, if I had enough money, I would personally go where they live, and tell them what I think about them personally"

"Oh they shot you down, you had a feeling Carla"

"I thought they would at least think about it. They both said no, they never loved that man in there. He deserved so much better than both of them. I'm so angry right now, I could beat someone up, so you better watch out Norm"

"Ok Carla calm down, and don't take it out on the customers"

"Whatever". Carla went about her business. It was 1 hour later Sam came out, and went to the bar. Woody smiled, "Are you feeling better Sam"?

"Yeah Woody just great, get those glasses off the bar, are you slacking off"?

"Me no, I never slack off, and you know it"

"I know Woody, sorry just go to work, I'm not in a good mood"

"Yeah I can tell you should snap out of it, or everyone will be afraid to talk to you"

"Woody go away'. He did, Sam looked at Carla she was staring at him.

"Sam let me talk to you, I'm sorry about earlier"

'Carla can you all just leave me alone, I'm in a state right now. I need to deal with my issues on my own. I love you for trying to help me, but your not ok"

"Excuse me for trying, I won't bother anymore". Carla stormed off, Sam grabbed a tray of dishes, but it slipped from his hand. It smashed to the floor. Everyone was staring at Sam, he had it, his nerves were shot. He kicked the tray, he yelled, "Enough all of you get back to work, or I will find someone else to take over your jobs". Everyone was looking at him, but they turned away. Frasier jumped up. "Enough Sam you are feeling sorry for yourself, and taking it out on all your friends. In your office now, I'm not asking, I'm telling you, get in there now".

Frasier walked into his office, Sam bent down to pick up the mess.

Woody walked over, "Sam I will get it, go see Frasier"

"Yeah Woody, whatever you say". He stormed into his office, Woody leaned down picking up the mess. Carla walked over, "Woody don't take it to heart he loves you kid".

"He isn't Sam anymore when will Sam return"?

"I don't know Kid, I wish I knew". Sam walked over to his desk, and sat down.

"Who do you think you are Frasier, telling me what to do"?

"Your friend, and I'm sick , and tired of your attitude Sam"

"Well leave than no one asked you to come to my bar Frasier."

"You want me to leave Sam really, I will , and I will never come back"

"Go"

Frasier was shocked, "Fine goodbye Sam, just push everyone out of your life you are a fool". Frasier walked out, Sam yelled, "Who needs any of you". He shut his eyes, and just sat in his office, trying to figure out, why he is acting this way.?

Chapter 4

It was 1 hour later Sam still hadn't come out of his office. Frasier walked out, he told Carla he wasn't going to put up with Sam's attitude. He said he wouldn't attend his party on Friday, he said Sam should be alone on that day. Carla hated seeing Sam push his friends away. She walked to his office, and knocked on the door. Sam didn't answer she opened the door, and walked inside. Sam was sitting at his desk, leaning against his chair.

"Sam I know you want to be alone, but I need to talk to you"

"Carla please go away, I'm just so tired, and I don't want to talk"

"To bad what you did tonight was wrong, you have Woody so upset. He left he got one of his migraines, you know he admires you, and he takes everything to heart"

"I'm sorry, I will call him in the morning to say sorry"

"Sam I know you are lonely but why would you treat Frasier that way"?

"I told him to leave but he always sticks his nose where it doesn't belong".

"Really Frasier has been one of your best friends for years. You are upset missing either Diane or Rebecca or both. Get over them, you of all people could find another woman to share your time with. Diane and Rebecca are not worth it, they left so get over them. You stop feeling sorry for yourself, because I hate that Sam".

"Carla I will be out in a minute, just give me sometime"

Carla walked to the door, "Sam"

"What Carla"?

"You know I care about you, I hate seeing you suffer"

"I'm not suffering, I'm just having a bad year". Carla smiled, "Get your black book out Sam, pick one".

"Go Carla I don't need a woman, I just need to put myself into my job". Sam got up, "Lets go close up, I would like to go home early"

"Close up Sam, are you kidding, you have never closed up early"

"I know but today, I want to". They walked out, Sam smiled at Cliff, "You are still here Cliff"?

"Yeah where else would I be"?

Sam laughed, "Where is Norm"?

"He left with Frasier, he felt bad for him"

"Oh would you like another beer, it is on the house"?

"Oh man yeah, wait until I tell Norm"?

"Well he doesn't get a freebie later, he lost his chance"

"Sam"

"What Cliff"?

"Are you ok, you scared us all earlier"?

"I'm fine Buddy, don't worry about me, I was just having a pity moment"

"Ok great, you should call Frasier"

"Oh I will let him calm down, not yet"

"Sam you shouldn't wait long, Frasier was really hurt"

"Cliff enough, I will when I'm ready". Cliff smiled, "Ok sorry, I was just trying to help".

"I know Cliff thanks, but I'm ok , just enjoy your beer". Carla walked over, "You are giving him a free beer, oh Cliff you are spoiled". He laughed, "Yeah I know but you both love me"

"Sam maybe, me no way"

Cliff laughed, "You love me Carla in your own way". She laughed, as she went over to serve another customer. Sam was cleaning up, serving up drinks, but he was so down, but he knew he had to snap out of it, or he would go back to drinking, because at this moment, he was dying to have a drink, and he knew that would be the end of him.

I agree with Sanda you really are doing a good job with all the different characters. Cheers is a hard show to write for bc of all the different characters and you are doing an awesome job. Poor Sam I hope he doesn't start drinking again. I love all the little details you put into the story. Great job Jessie

Chapter 5

Sam and Carla closed up, she smiled, "Remember call Woody tonight, that kid loves you".

"Carla I will thanks for everything"

"You are a pain Sam, but I love you".

"Ditto Carla, should I walk you to your car"?

"No I'm fine no one would mess with me". Sam laughed locking up, but he watched her go to her car. He waved, as she drove off. He was walking to his car, but was surprised to see Frasier standing against it.

"Frasier what are you doing out at this time of night standing at my car"?

"I was going to leave this note, but I decided to stay and talk to you".

"Frasier I'm sorry about what I said in there, I didn't really mean it. I really appreciate your friendship, you all are so wonderful, I was being selfish feeling sorry for myself"

"Sam you are hurting, I'm really worried about you"

"Why I'm fine, I'm just in a mood"

"Tell me the truth, you wanted a drink tonight didn't you"?

"Drink Frasier I didn't have one"

"You wanted one didn't you Sam"?

"Yes Frasier I did but I didn't ok"

"You need to move on Frasier, I know you are holding on to the past".

"Past you mean Diane and Rebecca don't you"?

"Yes I know you regret losing them, but who do you really miss Sam"?

"I don't miss either one, I'm going home ". Sam opened the door, but Frasier grabbed his arm. "You will drink again Sam, you have been doing so well. You have been really moody, and depressed recently. You have hurt your friends, you hurt Woody , you know that boy loves you Sam. He looks up to you, and you yelled at him today".

"I'm going to say sorry, Carla is fine you are dragging this on Frasier".

"Because I care Sam, maybe I should stay with you tonight".

"Why so you can continue to nag me, I need a friend not a lecture Frasier".

"Ok I'm coming to your home as a friend". Sam laughed, "You are sleeping on the couch, I'm not giving up my bed"

"You have a guest room Sam, your not scaring me away".

"You are annoying Frasier, you do know that right"

"Yeah my Father, and Niles tell me that all the time".

"Where is your car"?

"At home, I walked over, so I need a lift". Sam hugged Frasier, and smiled, "Get in". They drove to Sam's place, and went inside. Sam walked to the phone calling Woody.

"Hello"

"Woody I'm sorry if I woke you up"

"You didn't Sam, I was watching a John Wayne Movie"

"Oh cool, I'm so sorry about tonight, you know I didn't mean to hurt you".

"I know Sam, I just hate to see you hurting".

"I'm not hurting stop worring about me, see you tomorrow Woody".

"You bet Sam"

"Be in at 2pm ok Woody, I will let you come in a little later".

"I normally come in at 1:30 Sam you are giving me 1/2 hour".

"Yeah that is generous Buddy see you tomorrow".

"Bye Sam thanks for calling".

"No problem, goodnight". Sam hung up, he turned seeing Frasier picking up a picture.

"Leave that alone Frasier"

"Oh God Sam you still love her don't you, look at all these pictures". Sam was staring at Frasier, he couldn't deny it, he loved her , and hated that she wasn't in his arms this moment.

great chapter, you had everyone in character, woody would be forgiving and I loved the mention of Frasier's father and brother. Is that Diane Sam has pictures of? Cant wait to find out. love this story Jessie!

Chapter 6

"Frasier put that picture down, if your going to keep nagging me leave, I will call you a cab"

"You would kick your best friend out"?

"Enough Frasier my head hurts"

"Because your mourning for your past call her"

"Never"

"Why"?

"She walked away"

"You let her"

"I had no choice, I'm not doing this tonight"

"Fine pack these up, and stop pining for the stupid girl"

"Don't you ever call her stupid she was amazing, but so annoying she drove me crazy"

"Oh God have you been pining all this time"?

Sam turned away, "I never should have let her go Frasier, I lost the one person I truly gave my heart too"

Frasier put the picture down, and walked over to Sam. "Call her see how she is doing, she might feel the same way"

"What if she doesn't I don't even know if she is with someone else? She probably is she just has to smile, and someone would fall in love with her" Frasier laughed, "Oh God you have it bad"

"Frasier why can't I just move on"?

"You tried you have dated but you don't give these other women a chance. You have to speak with her, and if she turns you away than you have to deal with it"

"I feel like I'm living in some romantic movie, and I'm the poor sap that has the broken heart. I'm scared Frasier can you believe it, Sam Malone is scared to have his heart broken". Frasier had tears in his eyes which shocked Sam.

"Frasier are you crying"?

"Yes you are freaking me out, but we all are afraid of being alone. You need to call her Sam or you will never move on"

"I know your right, but just not tonight ok"

"Ok why don't we watch some TV, I don't think I can sleep" Sam smiled, "You are such a wonderful friend Frasier, thanks for tonight"

"Don't mention it but if you tell anyone I cried I will hate you for the rest of my life"

Sam smiled, "We both are big babies we have to set you up with a wonderful woman Frasier"

"Yeah I could use someone"

"Hey Carla is free she is sweet deep down inside"

"Oh God Sam what I thought we were friends"

"Come on you have to love Carla"

"She is the scariest women I have ever met". Sam laughed, "Yes she loves to scare people but I think she needs a good man, and no one is better than you"

"Never stop or I will leave". Sam walked to the kitchen, "Want a Pepsi or a coffee, I don't have beer or anything"

"Pepsi sounds great". Sam brought the 2 cans out with a bag of chips. They sat down turning the TV on, Sam was flipping channels. Frasier smiled, "M.A.S.H leave this on"

"You like this so does Carla"

"Stop Sam I'm never dating Carla"

"Fine but you should give it a try, she may be the one you let go"

Frasier laughed, "Stop Sam really I'm going to have nightmares"

"Or naughty dreams, I bet you will dream you, and Carla are getting it on, and doing the wild thing". Frasier jumped up, "Oh now I'm picturing me and Carla, you are sick". Frasier walked to the bathroom leaving Sam laughing.
