Melinda and Sanda this is a fanfiction, but this is not related to any TV show. This is one I'm starting from scratch, I hope you don't mind the topic. Hey it is fanfiction, it isn't us in real life, that is what is fun about writing this. This is about 3 strangers, that became friends, when everyone else seemed to turn their backs on them. Together the three friends, went on a journey that scared them, but together they knew they would be ok. Hope you like this story, this is the first one I wrote, that isn't related to any TV shows.

This story takes place in the 60's, so things were different back than.

Chapter 1

Melinda was at home, she has been out of school for awhile, she was working in her Parents clothing store. She had a boyfriend who she just broke up with for the hundredth time. She was so sick of his lies, and cheating, she said it was over. She had been feeling sick for the past few weeks. She was so tired, and she couldn't stand the sight of any food at the moment. She knew it was probably because of the break up with Billy. She seen him with Susan around town, and she hated Billy for that . Susan was the one person Melinda hated with a passion. She has been so smug, she was a bully that harassed Melinda for years. She knew Billy was trying to hurt her, but she wasn't going to let it happen anymore. Melinda jumped out of her skin, when her Mother walked over touching her shoulder.

"Mom you scared me, what is wrong with you"?

"Young Lady, how many times have I asked you to put the shirts on the rack"?

"I'm doing it Mom, I'm not feeling well"


"You have been sick for two weeks, we are going to the Doctor"

"No, I will be ok, my nerves are shot"

"You are going to Dr. Palmer's this afternoon, I already made an appointment"

"Mom you have no right, I'm fine"

"I'm your Mother, we are getting you checked out". Melinda was angry, she turned away from her Mother, and was putting the shirts on the rack. Melinda hated when her Mother did stuff without asking her. Melinda saw her Father he was such a hard worker, she loved him like crazy. It was 1pm when Melinda's Mom said they had to leave, to go to the Clinic. They left, they didn't speak , all the way there. Melinda and her Mom went inside, Melinda was taken to the back, and was asked to change into one of their gowns. Melinda hated Doctors, she changed, and was sitting on the exam table, when Dr. Palmer came into the office. He walked over with his chart, and began asking question. Melinda was upset he was asking some pretty intimate questions.

"Melinda is there any chance you could be pregnant"?

"Yes Dr. Palmer"

"Did you use protection all the time"?

"yes well once we forgot, what is up with the questions"?

"What is up you probably are pregnant, how could you Melinda"?

"I know Dr. Palmer it happened, I know it isn't proper"

"I' will do the exams today, if you are pregnant, you will have to make some very important decisions"

Dr. Palmer took blood , urine samples, and did his exam. He said he would call her as soon as he got the tests. Melinda was shaking as she got dressed, she couldn't be. Melinda touched her stomach, and shut her eyes, she realized at this moment, she might be carrying a baby. She knew she would have to raise the baby on her own, because Billy was to immature, to help out. She knew her parents would help her, but she felt sick thinking they would be disappointed in her. Melinda had every right to worry, because what was about to happen next, would totally devastate her.

Chapter 2

Sanda was sitting in the waiting room, to Dr. Simm's office. She has had a bad stomach ache for about a week. She hoped it would go away, because she already lost 2 days pay from work. The Nurse came out , and said she could go back, to see Dr. Simm's. Sanda walked to the back of the building, and went into Dr. Simm's office. She smiled, but he was so serious, he told her to sit down. Sanda did, but she knew by the look on his face, he was going to tell her something bad. He closed his folder, and looked at Sanda.

"You and Kyle are still dating"?

"Yes why"?

"Well he may have to consider marrying you Sanda"

"Marry we are not ready for that, I'm just out of school"

"Well you both should have thought of that before you went and make such a stupid mistake"

"Mistake, what are you talking about"?

"Young Lady you are pregnant, how could you do this to yourself"?

'Pregnant no, my Parents will hate me"

"No but they will be extremely disappointed in you"

Sanda started crying, Dr Simm's looked at her. "Sanda you will be fine, but you will have to tell your Parents, and your Boyfriend"

"I don't how Dr. Simm's they will be so angry"

"Your parents are very understanding, but this will hurt them. You will have to make some serious choices Sanda. You have to make them fast, you are about 7 weeks along"

"7 weeks, OMG". Sanda got up she was in a daze, she didn't know what to think? She knew one thing she wasn't going to give her baby away. She would have it, and raise it, and be a perfect Mom. She thanked the Doctor, and left his office, and went over to Kyle's place. She wanted to tell him first, than they could tell their parents together.

Kyle smiled when he saw Sanda, but he could see she was upset. He touched her face, "What is wrong Sanda"?

"I'm pregnant Kyle, I just found out"

"Pregnant, that can't be true"

"I am pregnant Kyle, I just came from the Doctors"

"What you can't be, my Parents, will go crazy"

"Mine too, but I am pregnant Kyle"

"What are you going to do Sanda"?

"What are we going to do Kyle"?

"We can't go through with this Sanda"?

"We have no choice Kyle"

"I do, I'm not going to give up everything I have worked so hard for. I'm going to University, I want to make something of myself, I can't be tied down to a child"

"What are you saying "?

'Sanda we have to abort this child, it is the only thing we can do"

"You are a coward, and a jerk, I will raise my Baby alone, I hate you Kyle". Sanda walked away, Kyle felt horrible, but he let her walk away. Sanda never felt more alone in her entire life. She hoped her Parents would understand, but she knew they would be disappointed, but she couldn't blame them, she felt the exact same way about herself.

Chapter 3

Jessie was in her room, sitting on the bed, when her Mother walked in.

"Jessie will you talk to me"?

Jessie wouldn't look at her Mom, she had tears fall down her cheek. Her Mom went to touch her, but Jessie pulled away from her. Her Father walked into the room, putting a suitcase on the bed. "Jessie pack, this is your doing, just remember that"

"I won't go"

"You will go, and your going today. Your Sister, and brother are at your Grandma's. I don't want them to know what is going on. You will come back in 7 months, I'm sorry but this has to happen"

"Please don't do this to me, I will work, and get enough money to move out". Her Father ran over grabbing her, "pack now you will go to that place, and you will give birth to this child, and you will give it away. I'm so disappointed in you, and I swear if Mike goes near you again, I will hurt him"

"Daddy please I'm scared, I don't want to go there".

"You should have thought of that before you became the neighborhood tramp". Jessie screamed, and ran into the bathroom, her Mother jumped up, "stop calling her disgusting names, she is our Daughter"

"She is our Daughter, she has to do this for the family. I'm not going to sit here, and listen to everyone talk about her. She shamed herself, and us, she will have this child, than she can come home". Jessie walked out of the bathroom, she wiped the tears from her eyes. "I'm sorry Daddy, but I will never forgive you for this"

"Oh well I'm doing what is best for this family". Jessie walked over , and started to pack some of her clothes. She was crying, her Father grabbed her suitcase, he walked to the door, "I will be in the car, don't keep me waiting". Jessie walked over grabbing her stuffed bunny, she has had it since she was 2 years old. She hugged it, she walked past her Mother, and went outside. She got in the backseat, and shut the door. Her Mother came out, and got in the front seat. They all drove, without saying a word. Jessie watched out the window, she couldn't believe her own parents turned their backs on her. She shut her eyes, it was 1 hour later, she opened her eyes, and she saw her Father driving down the driveway to a cold looking building. He stopped the car, and a lady walked over opening the back door of the car. Jessie got out, her Father got out taking her Suitcases out of the trunk. She handed it to a man who carried it into the house. Jessie was looking at her Parents, her Father touched his Wife's shoulder, "Lets go home, it is getting late". Her Mother grabbed her, and hugged her. Jessie whispered, "Ma Ma, don't leave me here, I'm so sorry".

"We have to do this Jessie, you don't want the town talking about you"

"I don't care please". They got in the car, and her Father drove off without looking back. Jessie screamed , the lady touched her arm. "Jessie this is your mess, deal with it, come with me now". Jessie stared at her, she knew she was as cold as the building she was staring at. Jessie followed her inside, she was scared, but she was so depressed, she didn't think she could survive this horrible place, and the thought of giving birth, and giving her child away made her sick.

Chapter 4

Melinda went home, her Parents came home 2 hours later. Melinda was afraid to tell them, but she had to. She knew they would understand, they would be behind her, and she knew it would be hard, but she would be a good Mother.

"Melinda what is wrong, are you still feeling ill"?

"Yes Ma Ma, I went to the doctor today, he checked me out"

"Oh what did he say Sweetie"?

Melinda's Mom, and Dad sat down, Melinda brother and sister were in bed already. Melinda felt tears come to her eyes, as she whispered, "Please don't be angry, but I'm pregnant".

Her Father dropped his glass of cola, he was shocked, and hurt. Her Mom stood just staring, Melinda could see they were upset, but they were too shocked to speak. Her Father got up, "Oh you will not do this to us Melinda"

"Daddy I'm sorry, but I'm keeping this child"

"No you are not, you are going to University, and you are going to be a Nurse like you set out to be"

"I will put it on hold, I will do it someday"

"Melinda we told you to be careful, how could you do this to us, and yourself"?

"It happened, I know what I did wasn't proper in your eyes. I'm keeping this baby, and I'm going to raise it"

"With what"?

"What do you mean "?

"You will give this child up, and you will take that nursing training. You will not let this mistake hurt us as a family, and hurt yourself"

"Daddy stop please, I can't give it up"

"You will or you will be out of this house. You think you can raise a baby on your own or is the Daddy going to help'?

Melinda knew the Daddy would be scared, and properly say exactly what her Father was saying.

"I will raise it on my own , if I have to."

"There is a place for unwed Mothers to go, until they give birth. You are going there tomorrow, I will tell everyone you went to your Grandma's place to help out. You will give birth, you will give it up for adoption, and than you will go on with your life"

"Don't do this to me"

"You did this to yourself Melinda, go up, and pack tomorrow, we will drive out to the place". Melinda ran upstairs, her Parents were devastated, they hated hurting their little girl, but they really thought what they were doing was for the best.

Melinda ran to her room, grabbing her suitcase, and putting stuff in. She was so angry, but she knew she couldn't fight her Dad. She also knew she was not giving up her baby, but how she was going to keep her baby, was something she couldn't come up with at the moment.

Sanda came downstairs, her brother was sleeping, and her parents were watching TV.

"Mom, Dad, can I talk to you both"?

"Sure Sanda we were going to speak to you. You are acting really different recently what is going on"?

"Promise you won't be angry".

Her Father stood up, "Oh God Sanda you are not telling us"

"Yes, I'm pregnant, Daddy"

"Oh Sanda what were you thinking, I thought you were a good girl"

"I am Daddy, I didn't want to this to happen"

"Go to your room Sanda, I can't look at you now"

Sanda ran upstairs, Frank turned to Maggie, "We have to take care of this Maggie"

"No Frank, you want her to abort the child"?

"No, she will go away, and she will give this child away. Her whole life is over if she doesn't". Maggie knew Frank was right, but she hated herself, but tomorrow Sanda would leave town, until the baby was born.

Jessie was in her room when Mrs. Stevens walked in.

"Jessie I hear you won't come down to eat"

"I'm not hungry right now, I will be sick"

"You listen to me, Annie is bringing up a meal. You will eat, or I will get Garry to come in, and help you eat"

"What I'm not hungry"

"You selfish girl, you are carrying a baby. You will take care of this baby, someone else will be getting her, or him. You will eat, and you will join in all the activities, or your time here will not be pleasant".

"This is a prison, and you are horrible, I want my baby"

"Too bad your Parents say it isn't happening, so get over it. You will have company tomorrow, another girl got herself in trouble too. She will be brought here by her Parents, I'm sure someone else will be along shortly after that. You girls really should have some respect for yourself, use this 7 months, to get your respect back".

Mrs Stevens walked out, Annie was walking in. "You make sure she eats , if she doesn't call Garry".

Annie walked over putting the tray down. "Jessie eat please Garry is cruel, he will enjoy forcing you to eat".

Jessie grabbed the sandwich, she was crying trying to eat. She felt like she was going to be sick. Annie pulled out a soda, "I'm not suppose to give you this, but it makes me feel better"

Jessie took the soda, and said thank you. Annie touched her chin, "Don't fight these people Sweetie, just try to fit in"

"This is my child, I'm not giving my child away"

"You will, but eat, and than have a rest, you look exhausted". Jessie ate what she could, Annie smiled, "Goodnight Sweetie, see you tomorrow". She walked out, Jessie looked around the room, she was crying, she whispered, "God please help me, I'm so scared". She cried for hours, and eventually fell asleep, all alone in her room.

Chapter 5

Melinda got up the next morning, and her Father said they had to leave right away, because he had to work in the afternoon.

"Daddy please reconsider, I don't deserve this"

"I love you Melinda, but this is your doing, I'm sorry. You go get in the car, I will carry your bags out". Melinda ran outside, and her Mother grabbed her purse, and they all left. Melinda just stared out the window, she wasn't going to give her parents the satisfaction of crying. They got to the place, and Mrs Stevens was waiting for them. Melinda got out of the car, her Mother hugged her, her Father took the bags out of the car. A man came out, and carried them inside. Melinda's Dad hugged her, and said goodbye, and got in the car. Melinda's Mom touched her face, "I will see you soon, I'm sorry". She got in the car , and drove off. Melinda watched she was so shocked they actually left her. Mrs Stevens turned, "Come inside, I will show you your room"

"Please let me stay out here for a moment, I feel sick"

"Young Lady, I'm not asking you again, inside". Jessie was sitting on the steps, she jumped up. "Leave her alone, can't you see she is upset, her Parents, left her in this Prison too. I will bring her in, when she is ready"

Mrs Stevens walked over grabbing Jessie's arm squeezing it so hard, making her cry. Melinda turned, "OK I will come in, leave her alone please".

"Jessie I will deal with you later, I'm tired of you"

Melinda walked over, "I'm sorry Jessie, thank you for trying to help"

"Watch out for her, she is mean , and she hurts pregnant people "

Mrs Steven's raised her hand smacking Jessie.

Jessie screamed, "I'm telling the Police you have no right". Garry ran out, and Mrs. Steven yelled , "take her to the room, I will be there in 10 minutes".

Jessie screamed, "No please I will be good, where are you taking me"? Garry pulled her into the place, Melinda screamed, "she is pregnant he is hurting her".

"Don't worry about her, she is your roommate, don't you dare think you two can get away with anything under my watch. You both are trouble for your Parents, and for me. I will make you realize, life doesn't revolve around you both. Come with me , and keep your mouth shut, do I make myself clear"?

"Yes Mame". Melinda followed, she showed her around, than Mrs. Stevens took her to her room. Melinda saw Jessie's bed, and saw the stuffed bunny, she walked over sitting on the other one. Mrs Steven smiled, "Lunch is at 1, dinner 5, you be there, or else. You will have classes starting tomorrow, but today, sit in this room, and remember why you are here". Mrs Stevens walked out, Melinda was so cold, this place was horrible. She looked at Jessie's bed, and walked over picking up the stuffed bunny hugging it. She was so worried about Jessie, she hoped she wasn't going to be hurt.

Mrs Stevens walked into the room, Jessie was standing by the wall . Mrs Stevens walked over, "Oh you look scared outside you were a brave little thing"

"I'm sorry, what are you going to do to me"?

"Well you have to learn right"

Garry smiled, "The usual Mrs. Stevens"?

"Yeah I hate to do it, but she asked for it". Garry yelled" come here Jessie now"

Jessie walked over, she was shaking so much, Mrs Steven's almost told him to stop.

"Do you know what disgusting little girls like you need"?

"No, please I only wanted to help the other girl"

"Give me your hands"

Jessie hands were shaking but she held them out.

Garry grabbed a belt hitting her across the knuckles four times, than he yelled, "next time you won't get off so easily".

"Oh you broke my hand, it hurts you hit me with the buckle part"

"Go to your room now, stop crying, and be down for dinner. If you defy me again, I will have to take more drastic measures"

"It hurts"

"Go you will survive, wait until you have the baby, if you don't start acting nice, I will make sure you get nothing to help with the pain, when you deliver that child".

Jessie ran to the door, and down the hall to her room. She ran in, and ran to her bed crying. Melinda jumped up, "OMG Jessie what did they do to you"?

"Nothing, leave me alone".

Melinda sat down beside Jessie, "I'm so sorry, you were trying to help me"

"I want my Mom". Jessie was crying, and Melinda whispered, "Shh she isn't coming Jessie"
