A Day you always knew might come

This is a story, I told Melinda I would write. It basically is a Carly and Jack story. It is sad so beware, but I hope you will like it.

Chapter 1

Carly was exhausted, looking after Madison who is only 18 months, and Sage, JJ and Parker were older, and pretty much took care of themselves. Carly couldn't wait for Jack to come home he worked all day but he was amazing with the kids. He would take Maddy for a walk as soon as he got home. He would help Sage with her homework, and he would watch tv with the boys. She put Madison in the playpen, and was folding laundry, waiting for Sage to come home from school. She noticed that Maddy fell asleep so she went to the kitchen to get herself a soda. She came back sitting at the kitchen table, looking at recipes for dinner. She smiled, seeing a pizza flyer's, and thought tonight she wasn't cooking she was ordering pizza, and while Jack watched the kids she was going to take a long warm bath. She deserved it, she hadn't just done anything for herself in a long time. She normally just jumped in and out of the shower. She couldn't remember the last time her and Jack made love, which disturbed her more than anything. She missed her private time with Jack, it was rare, they could just snuggle, and be alone. She was going to get a babysitter in Friday, and she was going to go out dancing, and than come home , and make love all night to her husband. She laughed to herself, she looked at the book she bought, which Jack called it romance crap, and smiled. "Love in the afternoon". Oh I wish". She got up putting the scanner on, she rarely listened, because it scared her when she heard anything bad, but she did turn it on anyway. She sat drinking her soda listening to the dispatcher, wondering how it would be doing that day in and day out. She looked over, Madison was sound to sleep, she smiled thinking if only she would sleep through the night. She was about to get up, when she heard over the scanner, "Officer down, Officer Down". Carly dropped her can of soda, her whole body started to shake, she didn't know what to do? She ran over to the scanner, hoping she would hear who was hurt, it couldn't be Jack. She ran to the phone, calling Jack's cell phone, and she almost fell to the floor, when it rang and rang, and went to voice mail.

"Detective Jack Snyder, leave a message, and I will get back to you".

Carly started to cry, "Jack call me, please call me now". She hung up, and sat down, Madison started to cry. She ran over picking her up, holding her to her chest, and she couldn't stop crying. She saw Sage walk in the door, and she dropped her bag, but looking at her Mother she knew something was seriously wrong.

"Mom what is wrong"?

"Sage can you take Maddy upstairs for a little while for Mommy"?

"Mom what is wrong"?

"Sage please take your sister upstairs, I will be there in a minute". Sage took Madison, and walked upstairs, Carly grabbed her phone calling Jack again, and he didn't answer, and her heart was racing, she screamed, "no Jack", as she collapsed on the couch.

Great start to your new story Jessie. I hope that nothing is wrong with Jack. Carly and Jack were my second favorite couple on As The World Turns next to Reid and Luke of course. Please update soon. I wonder if Jack is hurt and if he his hurt will Reid will have to operate on him if he has a head injury. I LOVE this story soo much already, please update soon.

Chapter 2

Carly was looking at the cell phone when Parker, and JJ walked into the door.

"Mom is something wrong"?

"Parker , JJ, I have to go out, watch your sisters for me ok"

"Mom you can't drive like this, let me drive you"

"Ok Parker but JJ can you look after Sage, and Madison. I have to go to the Police Station, I will be home soon. You can make them soup, if they are hungry". Sage ran downstairs, "Mom Madison made a stinky diaper, I can't clean it"

"Sage please do it this one time for me"

"No it is gross, I'm not her Mother". Carly threw her coat, "I ask one thing from you Sage, and you can't do it? I need you to help me, and you say no, well remember that when you ask me to drive you to Paige house, or take you to the mall. I will say no every time , remember that". JJ ran upstairs, "I will change her Mom, don't worry".

Sage started to cry, "I'm sorry, but I hate doing it". Carly was shaking she grabbed her coat. "I have to go, I will come home soon, don't answer the phone, or put the TV on".

"Oh God" Sage screamed , "Something happened to Daddy didn't it"?

"I don't know Sweetie, please don't cry". Carly legs gave out, she fell to the floor scaring the kids. JJ touched Sage's face, go to your sister , I will be up in a minute".

"JJ Daddy is ok right"?

JJ felt tears come to his eyes, he was so confused he didn't know what was going on? "I don't know Sage, go please". She ran up, and ran to Madison shutting the bedroom door. Parker walked over, "Mom what is going on, did someone call"?

"No the stupid scanner said a Officer was down, your Father isn't answering his cell. He always answers his cell, he knows I worry".

"Mom it doesn't mean nothing he could be busy, or he put his cell down".

Carly got up, "Parker please lets go to the Station, I have to go".

JJ helped her up, and helped her put her coat on. He was shaking himself Jack meant everything to him. He couldn't lose Jack now, it would kill him. Parker told JJ he would call once he heard anything, and to take care of the girls. Parker left, JJ walked to the stairs, but sat down, and started to cry. He cried for 5 minutes, than he got up, and wiped the tears away, and went to his sisters.

Parker was driving to the station, Carly wasn't speaking he was so worried about her. He couldn't imagine losing both his Father's. He thought he lost Jack once, and it killed him, he knew his Mother would be lost without him. He was so proud of both Jack and his Father Hal, but he wished they were not cops. They got to the station, and Parker touched his Mothers arm, "are you ready to go in Mom"?

Carly looked at Parker, and whispered, "he can't be gone Parker he can't". She started to cry, and Parker hugged her, not saying anything, because he was feeling the same way she was.

Chapter 3

Parker and Carly walked into the Police Station. She walked in, and the first person she noticed was Tom Hughes. He was pale, he was standing by the wall. Carly walked over to him, "Tom where is Margo"?

"They won't say anything, they said a cop was shot. I came here, they told me to wait, I have a bad feeling"

"I tried to call Jack's cell phone, I'm not getting a answer. I know something happened to him Tom". Carly started to cry, Tom hugged her, and whispered, "Margo and Jack were together, they would take care of each other".

"Call her Tom, what are you waiting for"?

"I did try, she isn't answering her cell either. She turns it off if they are in the middle of a situation. It doesn't mean anything, but I'm scared too" They both stood holding hands, as other Officer's tried to smile at them, but they were just as upset. She truly believed some of them, didn't know what Officer was injured. It was 20 minutes later Carly was sitting beside Tom, holding Parker's hand. They saw the Chief of Police walk in, he was pale, and they could see he lost one of his People. He looked over at Carly and Tom, and said something to one of the Officers. He walked over, Carly whispered to Tom, "Oh God I don't want to hear what he is going to say". The Chief of Police put out his hand, just as Kim and Bob walked into the Station. Tom saw them, he yelled, "Oh God no Margo". Carly was crying, the Chief knelt down, "I'm so sorry Tom, Margo died tonight in the line of duty. They did everything possible to save her, but she was to severely hurt. She was so brave, she saved her Partner, who would be dead right now, if it wasn't for Margo. The other officers said she would be alive today if she didn't run over to save Jack, she didn't let her partner down".

Tom yelled out jumping up, Bob and Kim ran over hugging him. Carly and Parker were crying for Tom, but they were grateful Jack was still alive. Carly stood up, "Where is Jack"?

"He is at Oakdale Memorial, he was hit too, but not critically. We can get one of the officers to take you to the hospital".

"Thank you". Carly looked at Tom, he was in shock. She walked over, "Oh God Tom I'm so sorry". She hugged him, he started to cry. Kim held on to Bob, as Tom whispered, "Go to Jack, he needs you".

"If you need anything call me promise"

"Yes I will go Carly, I'm so happy for you , and your family". Carly turned hugging Bob, and Kim, and than she held Parker's, hand, and walked out of the Station to go to the Hospital to see Jack.

Great update Jessie. I feel horrible for Tom that Margo was killed in the line of duty. I am happy that Jack is ok.

Chapter 4

Carly and Parker rode in the Police car, to the hospital. They both were quiet, they were so happy Jack would be ok, but they felt horrible for Tom, and his family. Parker held his Mom's hand, "Mom I thought it was Jack"

"I know Baby but we have to be strong for Jack. He is going to feel so guilty about Margo, he loved her like a sister"

"Casey Mom , OMG I can't imagine what they all are going through". Carly hugged Parker, and whispered, "Lets pray we never have to know what they are feeling this moment"

"Mom we should call home". Carly wiped the tears from her eyes, "OMG your right, I'm not thinking straight". She called home JJ answered right away.

"Hello"

"JJ it is Mom"

"Mom is Dad ok"?

"Yes JJ your Father is going to be fine, but I'm going to the hospital he was hurt"

"The news said a Officer died"?

"Yes Baby it was Margo Hughes, your Dad's partner"

"OMG no"

"Yes, I will be home soon, stay with your sisters, tell them I love them"

"I will Mom they are really upset"

"Give them a hug for me"

"I will love you Mom". Carly hung up, "JJ is amazing, you all are, me and your Father are so lucky to have you"

"No Mom we are the lucky ones". Carly smiled as the Officer stopped, and said they were at the hospital. Parker, and Carly got out of the car, and went inside. They went to the front desk, and was told where Jack was. They practically ran to that area of the hospital, they went to the Nurse station. She smiled, "Yes Detective Snyder is out of surgery, he is in the recovery room. He was shot in the shoulder but it wasn't as critical as it could have been."

"Can I see him, this is our Son"

"Sure but not for long he needs to rest". The nurse walked Carly and Parker down the hall, and went into his room. Carly was a little startled seeing all the machines, and wires hooked up to him. She walked over touching his hand, he slowly opened his eyes.

"Carly"

"Shh don't talk you just had surgery"

"Carly Margo is gone"

"I know Sweetie, but don't think about that now"

"She saved me"

"Thank God she did". Carly started to cry, Jack started to cry too. Parker walked over, "Dad"

"Parker"

"I was so scared I thought I lost you"

"I thought I was going to die, but Margo saved me"

"Jack you would have done the same thing for her"

"Her Family Carly". Jack was getting really upset the Nurse walked over. "You have to go he needs rest. He can't get upset, and talking is making his blood pressure rise, which is very dangerous"

Jack whispered, "No don't make them leave, I need them"

The Nurse touched his arm, "You have to stay calm"

"I will"

"Fine 5 more minutes". Jack said "Thank You". She went back to monitoring his machines, Carly held Jack's hand. "The Kids say Hi, they love you Jack"

"I love you guys too, have you seen Tom"?

"Yes he is with his Family"

"Does he hate me"?

"No he doesn't blame you don't think that way"

"Why did she do it"?

"Jack shh please they will make us leave"

Jack shut his eyes, but he kept replaying the events of the evening in his head. He knew if Margo didn't run in front of him to protect him from the 2nd shot, she would be alive. He wanted to be alive for his family but the thought of his best friend dying saving him, was to much for him to take.

Great update Jessie. I am glad that Jack is going to be Ok. OMG Poor Jack for feeling guilty about Margo dying to save his life.

Chapter 5

Parker went out in the hall Carly was holding Jack's hand. She could see a tear roll down his cheek. She wiped it away he opened his eyes.

"Carly I can't believe she is gone"

"Jack you both knew the job your doing was dangerous, this day is like a nightmare we all live with everyday wondering if this was going to be the day we lost our loved one"

"She didn't have to die, she took a bullet for me. Carly 10 minutes prior to that I was mean to her"

"You were not mean to Margo you both were like family not just partners"

"I yelled at her we all were frustrated, I said maybe we should get new partners we were getting on each others nerves. I didn't mean it, I was so upset, I wish I could take it back"

"She knew you were just talking in the moment, she probably laughed at you"

"No she said I was annoying, and maybe I was right"

"Oh Jack don't think of that think about all the good times you both had"

"Why was I spared , and not her"?

"I can't answer that no one can it was a horrible event that we can't understand why it happened"

"We had a chance to kill this guy 2 weeks ago but he got away. He was evil he is alive, and one of the best Detectives on the force is gone, and it is a waste. I can't do this job anymore, I have lost so many friends because of all the violence, and sickness in the world. I will never go back why bother it will never get better the next time it will be me killed"

"Jack it is up to you, I for one would love for you to leave the Force, but I know you would be lost without it"

"I'm lost without my Partner, it is my fault she died don't you get it"

Carly touched his face, "It isn't your fault it is that criminals fault"

"She tired to save me, she told me to stay back, but I had to be the hero. I was hit he was going to shot me again, she ran in front of me. I should be dead not her, she never should have ran in front of me, she wasn't wearing a vest. We always wear our vests but she didn't put it on because we didn't realize it was going to turn into a shoot out. We went there to speak to someone else he was there, he started shooting, and everything went wrong. I held her hand she died Carly, I begged her to hold on, but she died".

Carly was crying so was Jack, the nurse came over. "Jack we are going to give you something to make you sleep"

"Can you give me something to forget this day even happened? Can you bring my Partner back, making me sleep won't help". The nurse put a needle in his arm, he was so upset but in minutes he was asleep. Carly held his hand she knew losing Margo was one of the most devastating things to happen to Jack, but she was worried about Jack losing his love for his job, and Family and life itself. Jack was someone that took things to heart, he loved with all his being but she could see Jack was dying inside, and it killed her to see it.
