While you were sleeping
Chapter one
Sanda please bear with me here…. This is a you and Bobby story
Bobby was away in California for a few months visiting his brother Gary, trying to get over his divorce from Pam. Sanda was JR’s latest secretary. She was madly in love with him, though she never showed it. She would do anything for him, from anticipating his filing needs to refilling his coffee to holding his calls to letting him know in advance when Cliff Barnes was up to something. She wanted to make this a permanent position; not only did she want to be his right hand man so to speak, she dreamt of the day she could be Mrs. JR Ewing. It was far fetched; she knew he had all the ladies lined up ever since his divorce but a girl could always dream.
“Do you have a date lined up for this weekend?” JR asked.
“No sir,” She answered expectantly. This might be the moment she was hoping for.
“Take this and get yourself something pretty. Go out with your friends and have a good time. You deserve it.” He laid down two hundred dollars on her desk.
“I couldn’t sir…”
“You work hard. I insist.”
Sanda smiled, trying hard to hide her disappointment. He noticed her all right, just not in the way she wanted to. Maybe if she got herself something really pretty and wore it to work he would notice her. All she needed was one chance. She had an eye for figures and numbers; she could hold her own in conversation. She knew she was pretty, the kind of girl he liked. What did it take to catch his eye?
“What are you doing this weekend sir? Big plans?”
“Oh, you know, the usual… dinner with Mama and Daddy… maybe a quiet evening at home. Why… you interested in hanging out?”
Here was her big chance. Sanda’s heart raced and she forced a smile. “I’d like that JR.”
JR chucked. “I’ll be darned. A pretty young thing right under my own nose. How about we go out to lunch and we can talk about what we want to do for dinner?”
Sanda smiled. “Sure let me grab my purse. I’m always forgetting it.”
Soon they were in JR’s car, going across town to a local café. Sure enough, as they were crossing the street she realized she had left her purse in JR’s car. He tossed her his keys and she ran back to get them. Before she knew what had happened she’d heard a terrible noise. She looked over and JR had been thrown across the street. He’d been struck by a car. She looked over and there was another car coming, the driver wasn’t paying any attention. Sanda ran as fast as she could and she pulled him towards her, barely avoiding another hit.
She was shaking. JR could have been killed. Nothing like this had ever happened to her before. She got on her cell phone and called 911. She rode along with the ambulance and prayed that nothing had happened to him. As they wheeled him back to the ER room, she felt so helpless, wondering if he was going to live or die.
“I was going to marry him,” Sanda sighed. Little did she know those words would come back to haunt her.
