Sanda stood on a footstool in the mirror, admiring her train of her wedding gown. It was long and formal, everything she had ever dreamed of in her wedding dress. Nervously she adjusted her bodice when a bead fell off. She picked it up and then, wondering if it was an omen, she looked in the mirror.
*She was walking along the pasture in Austin , trying to pick out the perfect horse. She’d never bought one before, but she knew that she would spot the perfect one just by looking at it. All sorts of ones were being paraded around, when one caught her eye. It was pure black, a mare, with a jet black mane that had to be the pride of its current owner. Sanda could envision herself spending hours a day on this horse. She spotted the sign on it’s side, Black Beauty, and she smiled.
“That horse will be mine, “ she said out loud.
“Excuse me?”
“I’m sorry. I’m talking to myself. You must think I’m absolutely crazy. You see I just fell in love.”
The man looked at her even more curiously.
“With the horse… I want that horse. I’m here to buy it. I’m not leaving until I know that horse is mine,” Sanda smiled.
“I’m sure you will be fine,” the man beside her smiled back. “There are others to choose from that you would also like as well.”
“She’s the only one I want. I have fifteen thousand dollars and that’s the one I want.”
She turned to look at him and realized that for the second time that night she had fallen in love. The man beside her was the most handsome man she had ever seen. She was speechless.
“I’m Sanda…” she managed to blurt out.
“I’m Bobby. Nice to meet you.”
“Are you from around here?” she asked.
“I’m from Dallas.”
“I’m from San Antonio. We’re really not that far apart,” she hated herself for thinking out loud again. She turned around to see how he would react.
Bobby smiled. “I was thinking the exact thing.
Pretty soon it was time for the bidding to begin and the horses were bidding high. Now it was time for Black Beauty to come along and the bidder called out a bid of fifteen thousand dollars.
“Fifty thousand dollars!” Bobby shouted out, much to Sanda’s shock.
“Going once, going twice, sold to the gentleman in black for fifty thousand dollars.”
Sanda was shocked. She might have had a chance, if no one else had bid. But he made sure she never had a shot with his big bucks and sweet talk. Guys like him made her sick. She waited for the rest of the show while Bobby disappeared, probably so he didn’t have to face her, and then when she was heading over to her truck, she heard her name being called.
She turned around and saw Bobby standing there with Black Beauty behind him.
“I see you collected your prize. Congratulations,” Sanda spat out bitterly as she turned around to leave.
“Sanda wait. This horse isn’t for me. It’s for you. I won her for you.”
Sanda turned around, not believing what she had heard. Did he really do that for her as he had said?
“I knew you didn’t have enough for her and I wanted you to have her so I hope you can forgive me for doing what I did. Here are her reigns. Take her home and treat her right. I know you two will be very happy together,” Bobby told her.
“You’re wrong.”
Bobby was shocked. What else could he do for Sanda?”
“I think the three of us will be very happy together.”
Before either of them knew what was happening, both were leaning in for their first kiss, the first of many more to come.*
Now she was looking at Bobby Ewing, and the minister was telling them it was time to recite their vows.
“I Sanda Lynn Morris, pledge to honor you with my body, devote my life to you, spend the rest of my life making you as happy as you have made me. Each day is a journey, one in which I am lucky enough to have found my true other half, the one who completes me. I thank you for walking this path of life with me.” Tears of joy fell down her face.
Bobby gently wiped them away. “I Bobby James Ewing, pledge to protect you with everything that is in me. I will fight for your honor that you have pledged to me tonight. I will be your constant champion of all things right and holy, and will let no man stand between us. I will love you more every day for the rest of our lives.”
There was not a dry eye in the house as the couple exchanged their rings.
“By the powers vested in me by the state of Texas I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride,” The minister declared.
And so Bobby joined Sanda for their first kiss as husband and wife, the first of many more to come.
