Cheating hearts
Chapter one
“Why am I so drawn to you Abby? You are like a drug to me. When I don’t see you I go into withdrawl,” Gary murmured in between kisses.
“I’ll never tell. As long as you keep coming back for more- and you will,” Abby smiled.
“You sound sure of yourself,” Gary laughed.
“Hey, what good is power if you don’t flaunt it now and then?”
“Well I am definitely powerless when it comes to you.”
“What would your wife think?”
Gary frowned. “Do we have to talk about her?”
Abby pulled the sheet over her. “I’m tired of waiting Gary. You’ve made so many empty promises. And I don’t think you can deliver. You’re not exactly the strongest man I’ve ever met.”
“Hey I’m hurt. That’s not what you said twenty minutes ago.”
Abby laughed wickedly as only she knew how. “Don’t worry you’re still very sexy and I can’t stay away from you. But I’m getting tired of you going back and forth. I can’t be the other woman forever you know. I do have other options.”
“As beautiful as you are? I’m not surprised.”
“I know. But you can keep telling me that.”
They both laughed before Gary pulled her in for another round of lovemaking. Just then the door open and in walked Gary’s wife Val. She was shocked but not totally surprised at what she saw. She’d had her suspicions about the two of them for months and had never fully trusted Gary. Still nothing had prepared her for what she had witnessed at this moment.
“Gary Ewing!” Val exclaimed.
Abby didn’t bother covering up. She sat up, topless, smiling at Val’s misery. Gary quickly threw his clothes on, ashamed of his actions.
“ Valene! I’m so sorry. Please let me explain. I never meant for this to happen. I’m so sorry. I love you. I don’t want Abby. I want you. You’re my life, my heart, my soul. I’d do anything if I could make this right. I hope you know that. I can’t take this back but I can do everything in my power to make this right…” Gary tried to explain.
“Save it Gary. You’re weak. You’ve always been weak when it comes to a beautiful woman. You’d fall for the first thing in a skirt that gives you a little bit of attention as evidenced by this very *friendly* person. You’re a liar and a cheat. No wonder your own daughter wants nothing to do with you. Well you better get used to it buster because I feel the same way!”
“Val, you’re my wife. We can’t let it end this way. We’ve had too many wonderful nights, too many obstacles to overcome to go down like this. I’ve made mistakes, you’ve made mistakes, we can get past this. I’ll do anything. I’ll go to counseling. I’ll go to rehab. We can move. Please forgive me honey…”
“Don’t honey me. There’s only one honey in this room and it ain’t me.”
Gary ran to her and grabbed Val by the arm. Val responded by slapping him across the face as hard as she could. They both looked at each other for a long time and then they both realized she was done with him. Without saying another word, Valene turned around and walked away.
Gary turned around to look at Abby. “So that’s all I am to you? The very *friendly* person that your wife said I am? She’s right you know. You’re nothing but a pathetic drunk. I was just using you you know. For my own pleasure, my own little toy. I didn’t care who I hurt or how many lives I ruined. Now get out. You are nothing to me or anyone else. It’s no wonder your own family doesn’t even love you. Not even your daddy.”
Out of everything that was said that night, that hurt the worst. Maybe it was his vulnerability, but Gary feared she was right. Did Jock Ewing ever love him? As hard as he tried he never could live up to his father’s expectations. Maybe he was the failure that everyone said he was. There was only one thing left for him to do.
Two hours later back at Southfork Miss Ellie was enjoying her meal when the phone rang. Teresa answered it.
“Ma’am it’s for you.”
“Please take a message. I’m eating.”
“It’s Detective Williams. He says it’s an emergency about your son.”
Miss Ellie looked at JR and Bobby and knew they both were accounted for. This could only be about her beloved Gary. She felt sick to her stomach.
“I’ll take it. Thank you Teresa.”
“Hello?”
“Hi Mrs. Ewing. This is Detective Williams with the Los Angeles police department. Your son Gary has been involved in an accident. He is in the hospital for alcohol poisoning.”
“Alcohol poisoning?”
Everyone stared in horror.
“I’m sorry to tell you this ma’am. This was no accident. Your son tried to kill himself.”
