for you Sanda
two of a kind
Sanda couldn’t believe it. She was finally in labor. She was early, she was only eight months along but her water had broken and there was no mistaking what was about to happen. She was finally going to give Bobby another child, and neither one of them could have been happier. They had dreamed of this day ever since they had been married a year ago. She had pledged to love and honor him, and she had done so and more. She’d never seen him so happy as she did when she told him to grab the bags. At first he couldn’t comprehend what she was saying; she wondered if he thought she was suggesting a weekend trip. But then he caught on, and he eagerly drove her to Dallas memorial with the rest of the family in tow.
“Are you in pain honey?”
“A little, the medication they gave me is starting to kick in.”
“I wish there were more I could do to help you,” Bobby offered as he rubbed her belly gently.
“You’re already doing a lot by being here. I couldn’t imagine doing this alone.”
“You’re definitely not alone. You have a whole football team out there,” Bobby laughed.
“That’s good because I have a football player in here kicking it’s way out,” Sanda laughed.
“Do you think it’s a boy?”
“I hope so. I think its what you and your family want.”
“Honey I’ve told you before as long as its healthy I wouldn’t mind if it’s a boy or a girl. Maybe we’ll get lucky and have one of each!”
Sanda looked at him. “Bite your tongue Bobby James Ewing. One is tough enough. Can you imagine pushing out two of these babies?”
“I’m sorry Sanda. I shouldn’t tease you now. I know you need me to be sensitive. I’ll do better.?
“I love you.”
“I love you too.” Bobby leaned over and kissed her. Sanda pulled back, crying out in pain.
“It hurts Bobby.”
“I know it does. I wish there were something I can do.”
“There is. Go get the doctor. I think it’s time.”
Bobby ran out of the room.
“Bobby how is she?” Miss Ellie asked.
“I think it’s time. She’s brave but she’s hurting. I really want to help her.”
“You’re doing a great job. Just be there for her. I’m proud of you son.”
“Thanks Mama. I have to go find the doctor now.”
A few minutes later the doctor examined Sanda and smiled. “I’m afraid you’ll have to leave the room now Mr. Ewing. When I see you next you’ll be a father.”
Bobby walked over and kissed Sanda. “You can do this. I’ll be out there waiting for you.”
“Don’t leave me Bobby.”
“Never.”
Bobby let go of her hand and reluctantly left the room. About a half hour later the doctor came into the room grinning widely.
“How is she doctor?” Bobby nervously asked.
“Mother and children are doing fine.”.
Everyone stared at Bobby. “Children?”
The doctor smiled. “Mr. Ewing you are the proud father of twins. Mrs. Ewing gave birth to a boy and a girl and everyone is doing just fine.”
“I don’t understand? Why didn’t you see this before?”
“Apparently one twin was hiding behind the other and that is why we couldn’t detect its heartbeat on the stethoscope. This happens quite frequently. Would you like to go in and see her?”
Bobby got up and followed the doctor.
“Sanda?”
“Bobby, look what we did! I can’t believe it.”
“Neither can I. Can I see them?”
Sanda held them so that her husband could get a better look.
“Oh my goodness, they are beautiful. Sanda they look just like you. I’ve never seen anything like them before,” Bobby said, his eyes welling up with tears.
“Would you like to hold your son?”
Bobby nodded as he took hold of the baby carefully.
“What should we name them?” Bobby asked.
“I thought we could name our son Patrick John and our daughter Victoria Jane. What do you think?” Sanda smiled.
“Those are beautiful names. They are perfect, just like you,” Bobby said, a tear falling down his face.
“Oh Bobby are you as happy as I am?”
“More so. I can’t tell you what this day means to me. I’ve been hurt so badly and then you come along and bring so much happiness into mine and Christopher’s life. How can I ever thank you?”
Sanda looked down at her children. “You already have.”
And as the family started their new life all over again, they realized they had so much to be thankful for. They had their health, Christopher, the twins. Bobby was part of Ewing Oil, they lived at Southfork and Miss Ellie was doing well. Bobby was doing better than ever and it was all thanks to Sanda.
