It was Canada day, and Jessie was celebrating by having a cold beer at a outdoor fireworks celebration. She hated being alone, but she was very patriotic so she was still having a great time. They were having blue fireworks, her favorite kind. The national anthem was playing, so she closed her eyes and swayed to the music, bumping in to the man next to her.
“Oh, I’m so sorry,” she apologized. She almost spilled her beer on him.
“It’s okay. I’m really enjoying this too,” he smiled warmly.
She looked up and she noticed the most chisled and handsome man she’d ever seen. He could have been a model. For a minute she wished she did spill her drink on him so he would have had to take his shirt off. Oh Jessie, she thought. What in the world had come into her? Her face must have matched the red fireworks by now.
“Is this the national anthem?” He asked.
“Yes it is. It’s my favorite song. You’re not from here then?” Oh Jessie, of course he’s not or he wouldn’t have asked that.
“No, I’m from America. Los Angeles. I’m Ridge by the way,” he held out his hand.
“Hi I’m Jessie.”
“Nice to meet you. Are you here by yourself?”
“Yes my friends couldn’t make it.”
“I am here on business. I run a clothing business and I travel all over the world. I guess it was fate that I met you,” he smiled.
Fate. Jessie sighed. He was so romantic. Even his name was so romantic. She told herself not to get attached. He was probably just looking for a one night stand. Still she could do a lot worse.
“I’ve never been to Los Angeles. I’ve only been to the Niagra side of New York. But I hear California is beautiful,” Jessie smiled.
“It is. I’ve been everywhere, Italy, France, you name it, but there’s no where I’d rather call home.”
“So I couldn’t convince you to pack up and move to Canada huh?” Smooth Jessie, she berated herself. He must think you’re a real idiot.
Ridge laughed. “Funny I was thinking the same about you. I don’t meet too many girls like you where I come from. Most of the girls are really shallow and self centered. I’m sick of that. I like you Jessie. You’re awfully sweet. I’d like it if you came back with me. What would it take to convince you to give LA a try?”
Jessie looked at him. “Are you serious?”
Ridge nodded. “Would a night with me convince you?”
Jessie blushed. “Come with me. I’d like to show you that I’m sincere. I promise you that I would never hurt you.”
Jessie had never had anything happen to her like this before. She didn’t know why but she believed Ridge. This was the craziest thing she had ever done in her life but she was going to go for it. She had no friends or her family and she was sick of her job. They expected her to work whenever they wanted to for little pay. She was tired of being stressed out all the time. This could be the start of a new life. And she had always wanted to see America. This might be worth seeing where the night led.
So they went back to Ridge’s hotel, where he offered her a glass of wine. They sipped it slowly. He had a beautiful suite, which she expected. Was she going to fit into his jet setting life style? He was used to beautiful things, where would she fit in?
“What’s on your mind Jessie? You got quiet all of a sudden.”
“This is all so sudden. You lead an exciting life and I’m not quite sure where I fit in.”
“I need you Jessie. You’re beautiful, you excite me and I can tell you challenge me. I would love to spend the rest of my life getting to know all about you.
“You’re so sweet Ridge. I’ve never met anyone like you.”
“I’d like to show you what you mean to me.”
Jessie held her breath as Ridge kissed her. He pulled her in to him and wrapped his arms around her neck and gently kissed her and she closed her eyes. He smelled so good, she could tell his cologne was expensive. He touched her face and brushed her hair out of her face, slowly caressing his body against hers. As their tongues danced she knew she never wanted anyone more than she wanted him. Ridge swiftly removed her dress, carefully touching her soft skin, causing her to sigh in pleasure. Jessie quickly unbuttoned his shirt; he looked as good as she imagined he would. They finished undressing and he entered her, bringing each other much pleasure. When they finished, he laid beside her and held her, never wanting to let her go.
“I have a crazy idea,” Ridge smiled.
“Even crazier than what we just did?”
“More so. Let’s get married.”
Jessie looked at him in shock. She couldn’t believe what she’d just heard. Her- married? She’d just assumed that her time had past. And now a total stranger suggested that they marry? This was more than crazy- it was insane. But still, it was something you would see in a romantic comedy, her favorite kind. Maybe she’d seen too many of them, call her a hopeless romantic but there was something about this that told her that this just might work.
“Okay. Let’s do this!”
So they ran off into the night and were married. People said they were crazy, that it would never work, but Ridge and Jessie proved them wrong. They married on a holiday, but to them, every day was a reason to celebrate. They had three kids, and every day they showed each other they loved one another. They continued on with their crazy ways, but in the end they remained wild at heart.
