for you Jessie, happy early birthday. It's a bit sad but it has a happy ending.
Ridge Forrester was depressed, ever since his wife Brooke died two years ago. She left him alone with Rick, Hope, RJ, and Jack. Stephanie and Eric did a lot of the work. They had reunited due partly to Ridge’s grief. Stephanie and Eric had tried everything they could to encourage him to get out more, but it was no use. He kept to himself, and refused to accept that she was never coming back.
It was easy for Stephanie to tell Ridge to move on. She had hated Brooke from the start. She hated Brooke for loving Ridge and for sleeping with and marrying Eric. They would never get along, not until the end when Brooke was in the hospital after the car accident that would claim her life. Stephanie would make her peace, and Ridge would say his goodbye, but he would always live with the knowledge that so much time had passed between them, time that they could have spent in each other’s arms.
It was a Friday night, and he started to pour himself a drink. He knew that the answer wasn’t in the bottom of that bottle, but he didn’t know what else to do. The phone rang and he saw that it was his brother Thorne.
“Hello?” Ridge answered.
“It’s me. How are you?”
“About the same. Is there something I can do for you?”
“No but there’s something you can do for yourself,” Thorne answered.
“What’s that?”
“There’s a Parents Without Partners meeting at the Holiday Inn on Forrest Avenue that I think you should check out. It’s anonymous, you only have to give your first name. My friend went there and she says that it’s done her a world of good. And I think it would really help you to get out of the house. All you’ve done is mope and I hate seeing you like this. I want you do to this for me.”
“I don’t need a lecture from you Thorne.”
“Don’t do this for me. Do this for Brooke. She wouldn’t want you to stop living. She would want you to be happy and live your life. She wouldn’t want to see you give up so easily.”
Ridge paused. He knew that his brother was right even if he couldn’t admit it. Brooke was always so full of life, so happy. What would she think seeing him so depressed? “What time does it start?”
“At seven. You have an hour.”
“All right. I’ll go. Just don’t tell Mom and Dad.”
Ridge and Thorne hung up the phone and Ridge went to get ready. He arrived at the meeting a few minutes late and sat next to an attractive girl about ten years younger than him.
She smiled at him. He smiled at her in spite of himself. She was extremely beautiful and she smelled so good. She wasn’t dressed in designer clothes- he was a designer, he couldn’t help himself- but she still looked very nice.
They listened to everyone tell their stories and Ridge felt bad for everyone. Everyone there had been through a painful divorce, usually their spouse had run out on them. Most of them were dependant on child support and some of them didn’t even receive that. Ridge knew that he was lucky that he didn’t have to worry about finances, but some of these people lived paycheck to paycheck on top of dealing with broken hearts and young children. He couldn’t imagine what it was like to be like in their situation. Suddenly things didn’t seem so bad for him after all.
“My name is Jessie,” said the attractive woman next to him. “I’m 32 years old. I’m a waitress. My husband died three years ago. He had a stroke. We never saw it coming. We were on vacation in Dallas and we were in our hotel room and our ten year old daughter said that there was something wrong with Daddy. We got him to the hospital but it was too late. I’m here because none of my friends understand what I go through. They all are in two parent families and I’m so happy for them. But I just need some support now and then. It’s just so hard and I miss him so much…” she began to cry.
Ridge pulled her in and held her for the longest time. She gladly accepted. Of all the things she missed the most, one of the things she missed was being held. She didn’t know this man, but she welcomed him eagerly.
“Let’s talk afterwards,” he whispered.
She nodded. Soon they got through the meeting and they were in the Starbucks in the hotel. Ridge and Jessie were talking and they realized they had so much in common.
“My family doesn’t understand. They tell me it’s time to move on but these things take time,” Jessie said as she sipped her coffee.
“My family does the same thing too. They want me to meet someone know but they don’t know its not as easy as that. I want to find someone who understands what I’ve been through. Someone who doesn’t judge me for feeling what I feel.”
“I would never judge you,” Jessie smiled. She didn’t know why but she felt like she could tell Ridge anything. It seemed as if she had known him all her life. He was so welcoming, so comforting, so safe.
“I know you wouldn’t. I like you Jessie. I would really like to get to know you better. Would you like to meet again? Ridge asked.
Jessie nodded. A week later they went out to Ridge’s favorite restaurant, a routine that they got into every week. A month later Ridge brought Jessie to his house.
“This is the most beautiful place I’ve ever seen,” she declared.
“I’m proud of it.”
After dinner, he put on “When I fall in love” by Nat King Cole and poured a glass of wine. They danced and enjoyed each other’s company . Ridge gazed in her eyes and knew Jessie was someone he could seriously give his heart to. He kissed her, pulling her close to him. She wrapped her arms around him so she could feel him as close to her as she could possibly be. They danced together long after the music stopped. Running his hand along the back of her dress, he allowed his hands to trace the outline of her bra, wondering what it would be like to unfasten it. Encouraging him, she kissed him with a bit more passion. Ridge picked her up in one swoop and headed upstairs to his bedroom, literally sweeping her off her feet.
Kissing her deeply, Ridge fumbled with the zipper of her dress until it came undone. He lifted it off of her, marveling at how beautiful she truly was. Eagerly she returned the favor, removing his shirt revealing his chiseled chest. Pressing up against each other, they removed the rest of their clothing and he entered her, gently and then building up to an exciting pressure. She released first, several times and then he followed suit. They collapsed next to each other, with him holding her, never wanting to let go of one another.
It was a sad circumstance that brought them together, but sometimes fate takes a hand when two people need it the most. Their children were constant reminders of the love that Jessie’s husband and Ridge’s wife brought into their lives. Stephanie and Eric were well pleased with Ridge’s choice. The family was complete, and neither Ridge nor Jessie were lonely any longer.
