Chapter 17
Ellie walked downstairs, she was so nervous her stomach was feeling ill. She walked into the dining room, and her Father smiled, "Young lady it is about time, supper was ready 10 minutes ago"
"Sorry Daddy", Ellie sat down, and Maureen the housekeeper brought out their plates. Ellie felt ill as soon as she saw the spaghetti, but she took some deep breathes. She wanted to run upstairs, but she couldn't her Father would be suspicious for sure. She fiddled with the fork, she tried to eat some, but couldn't get it down. Garrison noticed, but her Father was too busy eating. Garrison got up grabbing her plate, and said he would get her more meatballs. He came back, and had dumped more than half her plate in the garbage, but added 2 more small meat balls. She smiled at him, and pretended to eat. Her Father finished, and laughed, "Girl you eat like a bird, are you worried you will put on weight , and Jock won't like you"?
"No Daddy, I'm not afraid of that, I'm just not real hungry today".
"Fine you can be excused, I think I might go to bed early you two". Ellie was happy, she didn't have to sneak out, if he went up now. He got up kissing Ellie, and walked upstairs.
"Is Daddy ok Garrison"?
'Yes, he was up early, he is just worrying about everything. I don't think he needs to worry about you too right now"
"I know, but I will have to tell him, if I'm pregnant".
"It is 6:30 maybe you better go see Jock, be home by 8 Ellie"
"I will Garrison promise". She got up, and Garrison told her to take his car over to the Stables, he didn't want her walking alone.
She left and got there early, but Jock was early too, he drove up 5 minutes later. Jock walked over opening the door for her, and she got out. They both just looked at each other for a few moments, than finally she went into his arms. She couldn't blame Jock, it was her choice, and she hated to admit it she regretted that they were not careful. She knew they should have waited, but she couldn't go back, and change anything. She knew she was pregnant, she knew her body, and she knew her life was going to change. Jock loved her she could see it in his eyes, but didn't want him to marry, out of a sense of duty. If she had to she would raise this child on her own, and she would, she just prayed her Father would understand.
Jock took her hand, and they walked over toward a huge rock beside the stables. She sat down, and he sat beside her.
"Ellie I have been so worried, I'm so sorry this is all my fault"
"Really Jock, I was there, and I didn't stop what was happening, did I"
"You were not ready, I never should have put you in that position".
"Jock this is both of our faults, but If I'm pregnant, I'm keeping my baby. I will raise it, I don't expect you to marry me, but you will be part of his or her life, the baby needs that"
"Marry you of course, I'm going to marry you, baby or not"
"You love me I know that but we were talking about courting each other, not getting married, that is a lifelong commitment, I don't expect that from you Jock"
"I wanted to marry you from the first time I met you. I saw you 2 years ago at one of the Family functions, I thought you were the cutest little thing"
"Little thing how romantic Jock"
"You were younger than, you were not ready to date really but I sure noticed you. I went to your Father a few months back, to ask if it is ok to ask you out. He was pleased, but he told me about Digger Barnes, and my heart broke thinking he got the girl, that I dreamed about for years. I should have made my move sooner, but I didn't want to push it. This is not what I wanted, I know your Father probably will hate me for this, but I love you Ellie, and I will take care of you, and our baby, if your pregnant". Ellie looked at Jock her eyes filled up with tears, as she went into his arms, and he hugged her. He whispered, "I promise it will be ok Ellie, I won't let anyone take you away from me".
