Just a little alternate take on Bobby and Pam’s second wedding
Pam couldn’t remember the last time she had been this nervous. She was fiddling with the lace covered bodice of her wedding dress. In less than an hour she would be Mrs. Bobby James Ewing- again. It was hard for her to believe this was happening all over again. This was the wedding she had always dreamed of happening- one in front of family and friends. Nothing was going to ruin this day, not even JR and Cliff. They would try their best, but they couldn’t keep her from marrying the love of her life. They’d pulled many stunts but nothing was going to keep her from walking down that aisle and joining her beloved Bobby in holy matrimony.
She smiled, wondering if Bobby was as nervous as she was. He must be looking so handsome right now. He always looked wonderful in tuxedos. Was he pacing the room, or was he the face of calm and collected? She wished she could just peek in on him and see what he was doing at the moment. Maybe it was for the best she didn’t see him. Bobby might be giving a lecture to his best man, big brother JR, on being on his best behavior, and certainly Pam didn’t want to be any part of that. No, it was best she let Bobby take care of his end of things and let her get ready by herself.
Did she look all right? Was the headpiece a bit much? Sue Ellen helped to pick it out and they both agreed it was stunning. Would Bobby like it? She giggled, knowing how much his approval meant to her, even after all these years. All she wanted to do was please him, even though she was an independent woman. She looked in the mirror and reassured herself that the headpiece indeed flattered the dress and she felt nearly complete.
Lucy, Miss Ellie and Sue Ellen approached the nervous bride. “We have to make sure you’re taken care of.” Miss Ellie said.
“You have your something new- your headpiece,” Lucy smiled.
“For something old, how about my mother’s pearl necklace?” Miss Ellie suggested.
“For something borrowed, how about my broach JR gave to me on our wedding night?” Sue Ellen held it out.
“And for blue, how about this garter belt?” Lucy laughed, holding it out for everyone to see.
“Oh for goodness sake, Lucy, give me that.” Pam grabbed it and hid it so no one could see it. She still had to laugh at the situation. She was definitely grateful for the support of the Ewing family members, who definitely were there to support her during this most wonderful night of her life. No matter what their differences were, Pam knew that she was part of the family, and for that she was grateful.
Pam took a few more minutes to get ready, and she came back down and the women were amazed. She looked truly breathtaking.
“You’re beautiful Aunt Pam,” Lucy whispered. “Bobby’s going to be so happy when he sees you.”
“You think so?”
“I know so,” Miss Ellie chimed in. “Now it’s time that Lucy and I take our seats. Sue Ellen has to get ready for her role as matron of honor and Pam as bride. We’ll see you out there.”
Miss Ellie and Lucy hugged the ladies on the way out and took their seats.
It was time for the ladies to begin their march down the aisle. Cliff walked Pam down the aisle and stopped only to turn her over to Bobby. He delighted in her appearance and in her joy. This was the moment they had waited for such a long time for. It seemed surreal. They knew that there were so many people here for this moment- Bobby’s brother Gary had flown in for the wedding- but to Bobby and Pam they were the only ones in the room. All they knew was that they loved each other and couldn’t wait to exchange their vows. They couldn’t wait until the official announced that Bobby could kiss his bride.
Bobby took Pam the hand and looked her in the eyes. She beamed, knowing that the road that they had taken to get here was a well- traveled one. Memories of Katherine and her twisted schemes had all but faded, as they were ready to begin their life again. Neither of them could concentrate on what the minister was saying, as they were both caught up in their own emotions of the moment. Soon it was time for Pam to pledge her vows to Bobby.
“I, Pamela Barnes Ewing, take you, Bobby James Ewing, to be my husband, my partner in life and my one true love. I will stand by you wherever life takes us, throughout the years and throughout the good times and bad times, through sickness and health. I promise my fidelity and respect, my honor and my friendship, and I will stand by you for the rest of my days.”
Bobby joyfully repeated those vows. After exchanging rings, the minister pronounced them husband and wife, to the delight of the crowd, especially Miss Ellie. Bobby and Pam kissed for what seemed like an eternity, then broke away to look at the crowd. Nearly everyone was moved by their display of affection, with the exception of JR and Cliff. They would just have to deal with it. Nothing was going to ruin their special day. Life was going to begin again for those two, from that moment on.
