Wonderful updates, I love the scene between Sanda and Reid. They are so cute together, and I can see why Sanda is feeling down. I love Reid he knows exactly what to say to make her feel better. I hope they get some much needed romantic time together. I kind of understand Hershel he hates the killing, and he always wants to do what is right. You are writing him so perfectly. I hope he doesn't get hurt by Brian like he did on the show. I hope Maggie takes it easy on Jessie but I can see why everyone is so angry. I hope you update again soon.

ch 19
Maggie knocked on Jessie's cell door.
“Come in.” Jessie smiled. She really didn't know Maggie that well- she was always with her boyfriend. Not that she could blame her. But she knew Hershel was a wonderful man so he probably raised his daughters to be wonderful too.
“How are you feeling, Jessie? Can I get you anything?” Maggie smiled.
“A pepperoni pizza sounds great right about now. But I don't think Domino's delivers to prison cells,” Jessie laughed.
“Ooh that does sound good. My mama always made the best homemade pizzas...”Maggie looked away.
“I'm sure your mama was a wonderful woman.”
“She was. She looked after us, all of us. I guess it's probably best the way things worked out, so she didn't have to see this world now.”
“You probably think I'm crazy bringing a baby into this world, don't' you?” Jessie asked.
“We have Judith. We all look out for her,” Maggie replied.
“You didn't answer my question.”
Maggie stood up. “You really want the truth? I'll tell you the truth. I think you're crazy, all right. Not because you're having a baby. But you're having his baby! I don't know how you think we're all going to be safe now. This baby changes everything. It really does. We've been doing all right for ourselves, but now that his baby is going to live here, we're never going to be safe! You're fooling yourself if you don't think he won't stop at anything to get what he thinks is his.”
Jessie was shocked. She had no idea that anyone felt like this. “Is this how...is this how you all feel?”
Maggie nodded. “No one wants to hurt you, but we're scared. We're all scared. My baby sister is having nightmares about that man. Glenn was almost killed by the governor, and what he almost did to me...I'm sorry but I just don't feel right about this. You'll have to excuse me for being honest. But someone needs to tell you the truth. When you were with him, did he tell you anything, anything at all?”
Now Jessie was really crying. “He tried, but I think he was afraid I wouldn't care about him...he told me all the time he was a bad person.”
“I hope you see now he was telling the truth.”
“What do you want from me? Do you think I should leave?” Jessie asked, her hands shaking.
“I don't want to tell you what to do. Do what you think is best.” Maggie didn't even look at her before walking away.
Jessie was so sad. She had no idea what a burden she'd been on everyone. All she could think of was how nice it was that she found her friends that she didn't stop to think she was putting them at risk. Maggie was right. As long as Jessie stayed underneath the same roof as all of them, no one would be safe.
So she grabbed her things and took the back way out of the prison, not sure where she was going. Now she was completely and totally alone, and she didn't know what to do.

Great update Melinda. I feel horrible for Jessie in this chapter. :'(Maggie was so cruel to Jessie in this chapter. . I hate the idea of Jessie and her unborn child being out on their own to defend themselves against Brian aka The Governor, the walkers, and the zombies outside the prison walls. I hope you update this awesome story again really soon.

I loved this update I feel bad for Jessie too. I know Maggie might be right the Governor will never turn his back on his own. He might say right now he could but when the Baby was born he would want to see his child. I think Maggie was a little cold, but I knew Jessie would leave to protect the others. I hope she will be ok, and I can't wait until she sees Brian again. I wonder what he will say to her. I love your story, thanks for the amazing updates.

ch 20
So everyone gathered around, trying to figure out what had happened with Jessie.
“We need to account for everyone. Jessie's one of our own now, and she's just up and disappeared,” Rick started. “We know it's not a walker; her clothes are gone to. Melinda, Sanda, Craig- you know anything about this?”
They all shook their heads. “There is something I need to tell you,” Melinda started. She was crying, and Craig wrapped his arm around her.
“What is it?” Rick asked, trying to be sympathetic. But it was hard- there were secrets in his group, and everyone knew secrets only led to trouble.
“We- Sanda and I, we kind of got mad at her. It started off she came to us, she was pretty upset.”
“What about?” Rick queried.
“She was mad, she found out about Michonne- how she's been trying to kill the gov- Philip.”
“Melinda,” Rick raised his voice. “You know why things have to be done. We've all discussed what a threat to the group he is now, whatever you call him. There is no way he's going to allow any of us to raise his kid. I ain't condoning what Michonne's done, but I really don't see no other choice.”
“Does that mean...” Sanda asked nervously. Reid held on to her hand.
Michonne shook her head. “I wish. It's just a matter of time.”
“But the council!” Sanda argued. “I was told Hershel went to you guys, and you agreed to put a stop on this mission of yours..”
“They might have agreed. I never agreed to anything,” Michonne stated flatly.
“Hershel, talk some sense into her,” Sanda pleaded.
“Don't involve my daddy in this,” Maggie spoke up.
“Maggie, I can speak for myself.”
“Don't you see...the governor- I'm sorry, that's who he is, who he was, and who he'll always be! He's manipulating my daddy into getting us to feel sorry for him. My daddy might be a kind man, and I wish I could be as kind as he is. But I'm not. If something happened to the governor, I won't be sorry. Don't ask me to apologize for how I feel, because I won't.”
The room was filled with tension as Hershel and his daughter looked at each other.
“Daddy,” Beth spoke up. “I heard rumors...”
“What's that?”
“I heard you know where he is. You've been visiting him.”
Michonne stood up. “Is this true?”
Hershel said nothing.
Now it was Rick's turn to speak up. “Hershel- we need to know if this is true. Everyone's life is at stake here. You owe it to us to tell us where he is. I don't want that man nowhere near my boy and my daughter. Certainly as a father you feel the same way...”
Hershel stood up, a bit off balance, and once again everyone grew silent. “If you-any of you- think I don't have my girls' best interest at heart, you'd best speak up.”
No one looked at him.
“Any of you? Glenn, you feel the same way Rick does?”
Glenn looked at Maggie helplessly. He really did not want to talk about it. “I don't know. I don't know what to think. I know you love your girls- I know that! But after what he put Maggie through-forget about me- but when I think of how close that man came to hurting her- and then there's Andrea and Merle.”
Hershel stared at Glenn for a minute. Glenn sat down, wishing he could just disappear into the ground.
“Daryl?” Hershel looked at him. “You got something to say to me?”
Carol glanced nervously at Daryl. He cleared his throat. “You all know how I feel. I can't be forgettin' everything he's done. He can call himself the president of the united states, but we all know he ain't never going to change.”
Hershel looked around. “In case you all forgot, I wasn't so easy to get along with when I met you all. I was stuck in my own ways, clinging to a past that I could never have again even though I wanted it so bad. I didn't want to change, didn't see I had a need to change. But my actions- or inactions-indirectly impacted not only my girls, but you guys as well. You all remember the scene at the barn?” He looked at Carol, who was now looking at the ground. Daryl touched her hand. “Carol,” Hershel continued. “I never took time to tell you, I never admitted to myself- to anyone- but what happened to that beautiful little girl of yours, I hold myself accountable. I should have known what was going on, and I didn't. Carol, I hurt you in the worst way possible- and I just wanted to tell you- from the bottom of my heart, I'm truly sorry.”
No one spoke. Rick looked at Carl, whose eyes were starting to fill with tears. Maggie and Beth were both also visibly upset.
But Carol surprised everyone. She did not cry. She looked at Hershel. “Thank you,” she managed to say. Everyone waited for more, but that was all she had to say. Daryl made a mental note to check on her after all was said and done.
“Daddy...” Maggie started. “I need to tell you something now.”
He nodded.
“Jessie- she left. I know she left and I'm the reason she's gone.”
No one spoke- they all watched in morbid curiosity as to how the scene would unfold. “What do you mean, Maggie?”
Maggie looked at Glenn, who nodded in encouragement for her to go on. “I was mad. I was mad at you, mad that you seemed not to appreciate the danger the governor has put us in. I was mad because my baby sister is scared and she didn't know how to tell you. I was mad and didn't understand why you seemed to be taking up for the governor.”
Hershel nodded. Everyone waited for him to speak. “I'm sorry, Maggie. I'm sorry, Beth. You two mean the world to me and I don't want to do anything-anything to hurt either of you. I just...Jessie is kind of alone in this world. We all remember what Lori went through, what Rick and Carl have been through...”
Now tears were falling down Carl's face, and they weren't far behind in Rick's eyes, either.
“We all have each other. You ladies have done a wonderful job looking after Judith, making sure she feels safe. Daryl and Michonne- the runs you make to get her things, well, I can't speak for Rick but I know we all appreciate that. You put yourselves at risk all the time to help out a helpless little baby. Most of us have felt alone during these times. I know I have. Maggie, you found Glenn, and I thank God for that every day. Melinda and Craig, Reid and Sanda- “
Now there was barely a dry eye in the group.
Hershel continued. “Jessie, she thought she had what you have- what we all have had or have wanted at one time in our life or another. Now she's alone, scared, confused- she doesn't know that we'll all look after her and her little one. Little ones- I do believe no matter what the circumstances are- they are a blessing. But this young lady isn't able to see that. I just know how blessed we all have been by our young ones- Carl, Beth, Judith,”...he paused and looked at Carol. “Sophia. I don't know what the right thing to do is as far as the governor goes. But I do know there's a young lady out there who doesn't know what we all do- that this group sticks together. That we care about each other. That we love one another.”
Daryl looked at Carol then at the group. “I'll go look for Jessie.”
“Me, too,” Glenn spoke up, not even looking at Maggie for approval.
Carl nudged his dad. “You know what the right thing to do is, Dad.”
Rick nodded. “I'll go too. The rest of you, you all know what to do. Michonne- don't do anything-anything- until I get back and we can talk more. Do you understand me?”
He spoke with such an air of authority that no one had heard from him before, even in the most dire of situations. She didn't say anything, but she reluctantly nodded.
As they all started to gather their belongings, Carol approached Daryl. She touched his arm. “Be careful,” she whispered.
He nodded and looked at her just a little longer than he should have. “Stay safe,” he finally responded.
She touched his arm, then walked away. And soon Rick, Glenn and Daryl were on their way.

I love this update I love how strong Hershel is , and how he was holding his own when discussing his decisions to the group. I don't know what to think of Brian but I feel bad for Jessie being out there alone, and feeling like she might have lost everything, and she is in danger but she is carrying a child that deserves to be safe. I am happy that the guys are going out to look for her. I love this story so much, and I know Sanda loves it too. Thank you for writing it for the both of us.

Great update Melinda. I love how strong Hershel is in this chapter as well. I just hope and pray that Rick, Glenn and Daryl find Jessie and her unborn child before anything bad happens to them. I love how protective Reid is of me in this story. I was kind of hoping that Reid would and go and help them find Jessie from a medical standpoint to make that she and her unborn baby were safe even though I would extremely nervous and anxious for Reid if he went out their to help them look for Jessie and her unborn child. I hope you update this awesome Walking Dead story you are with us in it along with the rest of the awesome characters from the TV show The Walking Dead.

ch 21
No one said much as they started their journey. They were all still processing Hershel's powerful words just minutes earlier. Glenn and Daryl didn't say anything, but they knew that Rick was now thinking of Lori, missing her something terrible.
They'd all been in bad situations where they lost or almost lost someone they cared about. Glenn's family had all turned, leaving him alone to fend for himself. And Maggie- thank God she was all right. He honestly didn't' know if he could keep going most days without the knowledge that she loved him.
And of course, Merle was on Daryl's mind. He hated what happened, what had been done to him. He didn't talk about his brother much, but he missed him. A lot. But right now it wasn't Merle on his mind. His heart was still breaking thinking of the look on Carol's face when Hershel mentioned what had happened at the barn.
He was angry, all right. Angry with the governor, for not only what he'd done in the past but what he was doing to the group now. Angry with Jessie for putting them in this predicament. Most of all, Daryl Dixon was angry at what the world had become.
“Think we'll find her?” Daryl asked as he made his way through some brush and some bushes.
“We have to,” Glenn stated. “We can't leave her out there, not knowing he's still alive.”
“We gonna kill him?”
“I don't see how we have any other choice.”
Rick stopped and faced Glenn. “We talked about this. We're not out here on no suicide mission. We're out here to find Jessie. What happens next, we'll continue to discuss back at the prison. But right now, no one- no one acts alone.”
“Rick,” Glenn stared at him. “You know- we all know- what that man is capable of. I know we all feel sorry for Jessie. She's alone and pregnant, I get that. But she just doesn't see what we all do- that none of us are safe as long as she's around..”
Daryl spoke up. “You suggesting we don't bring her back?”
“I didn't mean that. I don't know what I mean,” Glenn sighed. “When I think of that man's hands on Maggie- it still makes me sick. I hate myself for not being able to protect her, for not keeping my promise to Hershel that I would always keep her safe.”
“You talk to Maggie about any of this?” Rick asked.
Glenn shook her head. “She doesn't want to think about it, to talk about it, to remember. Sometimes I wonder if she blames me for not being able to do more for me. She says she doesn't. But you guys weren't there! He told her...he told her if she didn't go along with what he told her to do, that he'd hurt me. I wouldn't blame Maggie if she deep down resented me for that.”
Daryl watched Rick carefully, wondering how he would handle this. “Glenn, I'm sorry for what you went through. We all are. But right now I find myself thinking of Lori...” Rick started.
“You mean Jessie?” Glenn questioned.
“No. I mean Lori. Jessie- that could have been my wife. My wife, d**n it! She had us, all of us. And that wasn't enough....there's not a day goes by that I don't think of Lori, wonder what might have been- what she would think of Carl now, how she'd be with Judith. She didn't have to go through with the pregnancy- but she chose her baby. Our baby. Glenn, you kind of remember what she went through, right?”
“Anyways,” Rick continued. “Every day we all bust our asses trying to keep each other safe, trying to survive. I may not be happy with the circumstances around Jessie's pregnancy, but I do know this: I couldn't keep Lori safe, but I'll be d**ned if any other woman has to go through what my wife went through. I don't know what will happen with the governor. Maybe he will disappear. Maybe he'll come back. Maybe Michonne will get him. All I know is this- the world's a pretty cruel one these days, and there's a young lady out there who needs our help. The rest of it- we'll figure out.”
No one said anything. Instead, Rick looked away and resumed his search. The others followed suit.
“Rick,” Glenn finally spoke up. “I'm sorry about Lori. We all are. Just for so long we didn't know how to talk to you about it. We didn't want to upset you.”
“Thanks. I know I haven't always been the leader you guys all wanted or needed me to be. I miss her. I really do. I don't know if I'll ever stop missing her- or that I even want to.”
After a few seconds, Daryl put his hand on Rick's back briefly. “Come on. I think I have an idea where Jessie might be. You okay?”
Rick sighed. “I have to be, don't I? Glenn, you coming with me and Daryl?”
“Sure.”
As the three men continued their search, no one said anything. It would be getting dark soon, so they didn't have much time.
Rick prayed that Daryl was right, that he knew what he was doing. There would never be another Lori, and in his heart he felt like he'd let her down somehow. By helping this pregnant young lady maybe somehow, some way, maybe, just maybe, Lori would be able to forgive him. And almost as importantly, maybe he would be able to forgive himself.
A little far off in the distance, unbeknownst to them, they were being watched. And the man doing the staring was not happy, not one little bit.

ch 22
He was mad, very very mad. Here Philip had made the biggest sacrifice of his life, and how did Rick and his group treat that decision? Apparently very lightly, for the young lady who was carrying his child-his child!- was now lost and alone, left to fend for herself against the biters.
This wasn't supposed to be this way. Yes, Rick and everyone knew exactly who he was. It wasn't as if he could forget his past either. Spending those months on the road alone had changed him, but for how long, he didn't know.
There was only one way to handle this. Rick had to pay. That was the only way he would be able to live with himself. Philip had hated Rick, always had. After what Michonne had done to Penny- then Rick took her in and gave her food, shelter, whatever protection she couldn't provide for herself. In his eyes, Michonne was a murderer just as much as he was. His head told him to believe what everyone had been saying was true, that Penny had died long before Michonne got to her. But as long as he kept her in that closet, what was left of her, then he would always have at least part of her. And part of the love he had for that child was better than having nothing, right?
He'd heard what that kid-Glenn- said about Jessie. He pretty much wanted them to stop looking for Jessie, to focus on killing him. If they just wanted him dead that would be one thing, but for them to not want to do the one thing he asked of them- to look after his kid-that was just too much for anyone to handle, let alone Philip Blake.
He let them wander off, just a little bit more. Instinctively his hand reached for his gun. This was it- it would all be over in a matter of seconds.
“I wouldn't do that if I were you.”
Philip sighed, then raised his hands. He turned around, knowing who had spoke to him.
“Hershel, what are you doing here? Don't you know how dangerous it is for you...”
“I could say the same for you. I know what you're doing, and I'm here to tell you you're wrong,” Hershel sighed as he started to balance himself on his braces.
“Wrong about what? Wrong about Rick?” Philip sneered, the name of his nemesis rolling bitterly off his tongue, as bitterly as if he'd swallowed a poison. “Wrong about that boy your daughter loves? I don't think you know your people as well as you think you do.”
“Cool it, Philip. I'm not Andrea and I'm not Jessie and I'm certainly not one of your Woodbury people. I mean no disrespect, but I've been around for a while now. I certainly know what my people, as you call them, are capable of. I'm here to tell you you're wrong.”
“Wrong about what? The woman who is carrying my child- my child!- hasn't been banished from your group because of her association with me?”
“Yes, you are wrong. Jessie left, that much is true. But she didn't do it on Rick's request, or anyone else's for that matter,” Hershel replied. “She left on her own accord.”
“Why?” Philip demanded. “Why would she do that? I made sure she would be safe. I trusted your people to take her in, to make sure she was safe, to make sure her baby would be too.”
“But we both know that's not just her baby. He's yours, too, and that's got everyone worried. To be honest with you, I can't say that I blame them.”
“You really think I'd hurt my own?”
“You'd hurt anyone who stopped you from being with your own. That's the truth, isn't it?” Hershel asked.
Before Philip could answer, Hershel stopped him. “Don't even bother with a lie. Don't forget, me and my own, we've all been to Woodbury.”
“Well then I guess you know what I have to do.” Philip reached for his weapon. Hershel stepped in front of him.
“What are you doing? I don't want to hurt you...” he warned.
“I'm trying to do you a favor, whether or not you believe me. I've been keeping tabs on Jessie for you, haven't I? Been sneaking out to see you, although that's no longer a secret at the prison. My girls are mad, hurt and confused. They think I'm taking up for you. I'm not. I know full well who you are and what you're capable of doing.”
Philip lowered his gun but continued to stare at the older man. “Then why...”
“I'll tell you why. Jessie loves you. I know she does and you know she does. You looked after her, for whatever reason. I know there's a young woman out there who needs us, who needs our help. The question is- what are you willing to do to keep your child safe? You proved it to me when you first brought her to the prison. You proved it to me just now when you put your weapon down. I'm just a defenseless, one-legged old man. You could have taken me out if you wanted to. But you didn't. Now we can sit here and argue about Rick and our people all day long. But it'll be night soon, and we both know Jessie won't be safe out here by herself, not for very long. Rick doesn't know I'm out here. I'm going to look for her. Are you with me or not?”
As Philip watched Rick's little search party get further away, he nodded at Hershel. “Let's go. There's a place, not far from where I found her. She may not be looking for me but it's about as far as she can go this evening.”
Hershel smiled, and they both started walking.

ch 23
So Philip and Hershel approached a little hut, one close to where Philip had found Jessie. It was obvious she was there- she wouldn't go too far in her condition.
“Jessie...it's me...”Philip started, but Hershel approached the little weather-beaten cot. “Jessie...it's me. Your friend, Hershel. Or shall I say Santa?”
He smiled as he could hear Jessie chuckle a bit. He knew that wasn't easy for her to do, especially not then, but God bless her, she was going through so much. “Jessie, we won't hurt you. We just want to talk to you.”
“I won't talk to him,” Jessie started. She hadn't even peeked out the hut yet.
“Jessie, it's all right. Philip will go for a walk, won't you?”
Philip gave Hershel a dirty look, but he complied.
Jessie finally looked out. “Is he..is he gone?”
Hershel smiled. “It's just you and me. I came to check on you and your little one. How are you feeling?”
She stepped out. “Miserable. I'm sick all the time, and I'm so hungry. My stomach hurts so bad from not having enough food, and all I can think is...my poor baby,” she started to sob.
Hershel put his arm around her. “It's going to be all right. None of us have much food these days. But you'd better come back to the prison with us. You'd do just a might better there than out here alone.”
She pulled back. “Even you think I can't take care of my baby.”
“I didn't say that. We all are hungry. I know for certain Daryl's been stockpiling a special supply of food for you. The garden's come back in, looks pretty good. Then again, everything looks good these days,” he chuckled.
“You don't understand. I can't go back there, even if I wanted to.”
“I know what my daughter said to you. She told me, and she feels bad about it. They are all scared in there, that's all. I'm not saying its right how she talked to you. It's just that...well, sometimes you think something is what you think it is, and its not. My girl Maggie taught that to me, once upon a time.”
“But I don't know what to think!” Jessie cried out. “They all think that I am bringing him to you all, like I would hurt any of you!! And my best friends are there...do you think I want anything bad to happen to my best friends?”
“You're strong, Jessie. You're a survivor. I don't know much about you or where you come from. But the way I see it...you're family now, whether you choose to see that or not. I'm not going to let anything happen to any of my girls. That includes you and that little baby you're carrying,” Hershel smiled and then Jessie hugged him.
“I guess...I can see why Maggie and Beth wouldn't like me. I can tell you've been a good father to them,” Jessie smiled.
“And I'd be happy to be a good grandpa to that little one of yours, if you see fit,” he replied.
Jessie, through her tears, just made one comment. “I'd love that. But I'll let you tell Beth, if you don't mind.”
They both laughed.
Finally Philip joined them. “Jessie...I need to talk to you. Please, Hershel can sit down over there. I just...there are some things I need to tell you. I'm not going to hurt you. Please.”
“I don't...I don't know.”
“Please, Jessie. I lost Penny. I don't want to lose you or this baby either.”
Jessie looked at him, than at Hershel, never more confused than she was at that moment.
