The last thing I remembered was me and my brother in the hospital. He got shot on the job. I was in a car accident. I woke up on a hospital bed with dying flowers on the stand beside me. I got up slowly, feeling a little bit dizzy. I took the tubes out of my arms and I got up. I walked down the hospital hallway and stopped, shocked. There was a doctor eating a patient. It was horrifying. How long was I out? I quickly turned around and went the other way. I found the stairs. I quickly went down the stairs and got out of the hospital building. I looked around and there wasn’t a whole lot but still...It amazed me to see people eating other people. They were freaking zombies! I saw a bike with an opening to ride it to. I quickly but quietly ran to the bike. I got on the bike and rode as quickly to anywhere as I could. I had nowhere to go. I saw someone who resembled my brother and he turned around. He didn’t look like a zombie but I had to check.
“Rick! Are you okay?” I yelled at him, tears running down my face. He ran to me, yelling my name.
“Ashley! Oh Ashley! Thank god you’re alright!” I got off my bike as soon as he was hugging distance. I went and hugged him tightly. He held me as I cried. I didn’t want anything to happen to him. He looked at me. “We need to find Lori and Carl.” So we walked to our old house. It was overrun with zombies. Tears flooded both of our faces. We found a running car and got in it. He drove as quickly as he could. “I heard that Atlanta was safe. We will start there and search for Carl and Lori. They can’t be dead.” The last sentence was more for him than me.
“Okay Rick. I love you so much.” He smiled at me and looked forward, continuing to drive fast. I saw smoke coming from somewhere in the woods. “Hey Rick, there’s smoke in the woods. Maybe Lori and Carl could be there. It could be a camp.” He nodded, grateful for my hopeful thinking. He parked the car and we got the stuff he had packed before I found him. We walked to where we smelled the smoke strongest. We heard a crack of twigs. He quickly turned around and exhaled in relief. I turned around and saw Lori with a strange woman. She looked at us and ran to hug us both. We all began to cry and the woman smiled sweetly.
“Lori! Is Carl safe?” She nodded, she couldn’t speak. I understood because I couldn’t speak either. I was glad to find both my brother and his wife. We walked back to the place where the smoke came from. I was right, it was a camp. There were loads of other people there, including Shane. Shane looked at me and smiled. I ran up to him and hugged him tightly.
“Shane!! It’s good to see you again!” I punched his arm and he playfully punched back. Still the same old Shane I knew. I went back to my brother and heard Carl cry out,
“Dad! Aunt Ashley!” He hugged his dad first then me.” I see Shane nod at my brother, his best friend. After the happy reunion, we were both introduced to people around here. The woman with my sister-in-law was Carol, and her husband Ed and their kid Sophia. Daryl with his brother Merle, Andrea and her sister Amy. There was so many people, I was glad though. I sat around the campfire and ate quietly. Shane sat down beside me and smiled.
“How are you? You like everyone?” I nodded, finishing my last bite of chips.
“Yeah…mostly everyone seems nice. Daryl seems quiet and Merle seems tough.” Shane smirked at me and put his arm around me. My brother and his wife were probably talking, getting to reunite again after probably weeks. Shane looked at me. “Thinking about what my parents are doing. I was thinking they were reuniting.” Shane stuck his tongue out and we both ended up laughing. I secretly had a crush on Shane. Sometimes I feel like he likes me back. But I would never tell anyone that. Especially not Shane. I leaned on Shane’s shoulder and he let me. He absentmindedly kissed the top of my head. I looked into his eyes. He brushed flyaway hair with his fingers. I felt my face turn bright red. He chuckled and kissed my lips very sweetly. I kissed him back, slow at first. Then it turned more passionate. He had to end the kiss and chuckled again. I couldn’t believe my extraordinary luck. I leaned and sighed contently. This could be the beginning of true love.
