Jeannie was in such a good mood. Today was a day she'd been dreaming of for years- it was hers and Tony's one year anniversary. She'd seen so much in all of her life, but never had she imagined loving a man as perfect, as handsome and as wonderful as her husband was.
What was it about Anthony Nelson that made her fall in love at first sight? True, he was gorgeous- those blue eyes of his! That cheeky grin! But more importantly, she knew from the start that he was the one she would spend the rest of her life loving.
Oh, to be sure it took some convincing on her part for Anthony to wake up and realize that she was the only woman for him. It had hurt Jeannie to watch him give his heart to other women, but even then she knew that if she was patient enough, he would come around eventually.
The best part- despite all her scheming, her dreaming, and her silly plans, he fell in love with her. She knew she drove him crazy sometimes, but he pointed out, he knew life with her would never be boring. And she knew that every single day spent with him would be the best day of her life.
.
.Finally the moment she'd been waiting for occurred- Anthony was home! She honestly did not care if he remembered the occasion or not; she was so happy to see him that nothing else mattered, only the sight of his handsome face.
Running to embrace him and almost knocking him to the floor, Jeannie exclaimed. “Oh Anthony, you are home! I am so happy you are home!”
Despite his mild irritation at almost losing his balance, Anthony knew he couldn't stay mad at her, not for long anyhow.
“Jeannie! What in the world has gotten into you? You act like you haven't seen me in a hundred years!” Anthony laughed.
“Is it not okay for a genie to miss her husband?” she grinned right before showering his cheek with kisses.
He pried her away from him and studied her closely. “Jeannie, do you have something to tell me?”
the smile on her face gave her away.
He frowned. “Is your mother coming for a visit?”
Jeannie laughed. No one had ever amused her the way her husband did. “ No, my darling. My mother is not coming to visit. But we are going to be expecting a visitor.”
He sighed. “Who is it this time?”
“I do not know yet.”
He walked over and poured himself a cup of milk. “Jeannie, I have had a really long day. I really wish you wouldn't play these little games with me.”
“I honestly do not know who it is that will be visiting.”
“Tell me this, Jeannie. Do you at least know when they will be here?”
“Oh, in about nine months.” She watched him carefully, eager to gauge his reaction.
“You mean...”
“Yes, my darling husband. You are going to be a father!s that not the most wonderful news you have heard in your life?”
He ran over to embrace her, then pulled back suddenly, mindful of her condition. “You are sure?”
Jeannie nodded.
He kissed her much to her delight.
“Happy anniversary, my husband.”
“But Jeannie....I haven't got you anything. Would you like me to take to dinner, would you like flowers, jewelry, anything your heart desires?”
She didn't hesitate even for a second. “I have everything my heart has ever desired right here in this room. You gave me the best gift of my life a year ago today, when you pledged to become my husband.”
“I think it was the smartest decision of my life,” he murmured as he pulled her close to him.
“Happy anniversary, Anthony Nelson.”
“Happy anniversary, Jeannie. I love you.”
A baby, his love and attentions....yes Jeannie was one happy genie indeed.
