This is a birthday present for my daughter. Happy birthday honey!! love ya!
Carol had had the worst week of her life. Not only had she lost her daughter, but to make matters worse her best friend Daryl had been missing too. He said he had things to do, but what, she didn't know. Did he really think that he could avenge Sophia's death somehow? They really hadn't said much but there was a friendship beginning to form, and now all Carol could think was that she'd lost her friend, her real only friend as well.
Much to her surprise, one day when she finally decided to visit Sophia's grave, she found a Cherokee rose planted next to it. He'd been there. He wasn't far, and the thought comforted her somewhat.
She heard someone clear their voice and she turned around and to her shock she saw Daryl with a young girl. Was her mind playing tricks on her?
“Sophia?” she managed to cry out.
Daryl and the girl walked up to her. “No, Carol. This ain't Sophia. This is my sister, Michaela. I found her. I was kinda hoping...never mind.”
“What's that? You can ask me anything after all you've done for me.”
“I ain't done nothin'.”
“You did a lot. More than anyone. More than you'll ever know.”
He smiled a bit. “Anyways I found mine and Merle's sister. You know about girls and stuff... “
“You want me to help you out with her?” Carol smiled back.
“Yeah. I know that's a lot to ask...”
She walked up to him and touched his arm. “For you I'd do anything.” Then she turned to Michaela. “How old are you sweetheart?”
“I'm going to be 17 on Friday.”
“Well you're in for one heck of a ride. But between your brother and I we won't let anything happen to you.”
Michaela smiled and asked Carol for a hug, who happily obliged. This was the beginning of a beautiful friendship.
There will be a few more short chapters as my daughter is here this week. I hope you all like it!
